Agent Confirms Town Bid for Watford's Priskin
Agent Confirms Town Bid for Watford's Priskin
Tuesday, 4th Aug 2009 08:45

Tamás Priskin’s agent József Vörösbaranyi has confirmed that Town have made an offer for the Watford striker. Vörösbaranyi told a Hungarian newspaper that he expects the clubs to agree a deal which would see the 22-year-old join the Blues.

TWTD first broke the news that Town were chasing Priskin last Thursday with Roy Keane subsequently denying that a bid had been made, prior to being spotted at Vicarage Road watching the Hungarian international in action on Saturday.

Now it appears the Blues have made their move with Vörösbaranyi confirming that an offer has been made: “I cannot reveal the price, but I may confirm that Ipswich have made a very serious offer for Watford’s Tamás Priskin.

“We wait for the club's answer now, but I believe that an agreement will be made between the two clubs.”

The Hungarian press is reporting that a fee of somewhere around the £1 million to £1.2 million mark has been offered by Town.

Vörösbaranyi says that the player is interested in joining the Blues, although he wouldn’t be too disappointed at remaining at Watford as he is happy at the Hertfordshire club.

Priskin was born in Slovakia but has a Hungarian passport and has won 19 caps for his adopted country, scoring seven times.

He played with Slovak youth side FC Komárno before starting his professional career with Hungarian club GyÅ‘ri ETO.

In 2006 he moved to Watford, who were then in the Premier League, for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year deal. Since then he has scored 16 goals in 58 starts and 24 sub appearances and also scored twice in four starts and one game from the bench during a one-month loan spell at Preston early in 2008.

The 6ft 1in tall striker is contracted to the Hornets until the summer of 2010 and is yet to sign an extension to his initial contract at Vicarage Road.

A fortnight ago, Watford boss Malky Mackay said he was confident Priskin, who scored 14 times in 36 starts and five sub appearances last season, would still be with his club at the start of 2009/10.

Meanwhile, Veliche Shumulikoski is continuing talks regarding personal terms with Preston, the clubs having agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £400,000 last week. The Macedonian international has already undergone a medical at Deepdale and his move looks all but certain to go ahead.

woo hooo... lets make this happen. That international scoring record speaks volumes. And his youtube goal fest is indeniable. Surely when he meets roy and sees our facilities compared to Watford's he'll want to be out of the hertfordshire club ASAP?! suddenly promotion look real

Why would you spend £1.2m on a player who scored only a few goals last season (less then Lisbie did I believe) and sell a promising youngster for £150k? A fool and his money is...

Indian agent??? "József Vörösbaranyi" is as Hungarian as they come, lol

I wonder what Keano's thoughts are with regards to where Priskin would play. Would he be an alternative to Stead in a 4-3-3 formation (assuming Martin on the outside left and Walters on the right)? Or maybe he would complement Stead/Counago in a 4-4-2? It could be a quite unrecognisable strikeforce this season, especially with Wickham coming through as well! I see Lita is joining Boro which will no doubt upset some Town fans, but I honestly feel he would have been a disruptive influence here, given his frequent shifting from club to club ....

Should please my Hungarian sister-in-law no end.

Has the potential to be a very good signing. At 6'1" him and Stead upfront together would give us a big physical presence.

very good news. these days its very difficult to bag a proven goalscorer from one of your rivals, particularly one so young. well done RK if/when you do it.

Good signing if we can pull it off, Watford season ticket holder i know has already said he'd be sad to see him go....

Duffers I'm hoping we sign him just for that article title now. xD

I do like the look of this lad, and with Stead, who if played regularly last season would have been closer to the 20 mark, along with Wickham, who looks like a prospect many premier league teams would want to have, I think we may have the team there or thereabouts to be seriously considering a promotion push.

Oh and Counago may play some part, I don't mind or care if he does.

Hope this comes off, be interesting to see what kind of attacking formation we produce this season, got so fed up with JM's lone striker up front last season.
Am really looking forward to Sunday....COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!

His agent says he would be happy staying at Watford BUT the clubs were talking?
Seems a long was off.

I would be happy if we signed Priskin. The thing that bothers me is testing Watford's resolve. They seem reluctant to lose him (which is a good sign) but are they in a position where they need to sell? I seem to remember one of their stands is held up with sticky tape and they lost a lot of players last year but don't know what their situation is now.

Not a great first post, oldbluestu...I'd say "Why would you sell a 19-year-old unproven above League 2 level (and destined to spend most of the season on the bench) for £850k, and then spend £1.2m on a 22-year-old international with a couple of season's experience at CCC level, 14 goals last season (including a couple past Chelsea & Spurs in the cups...) and the physical presence to lead the line in RK's preferred system?"

Too many people around here seem to be thinking with their hearts rather than their heads over the JR transfer!

This Would be great for town After all hes got to be better than lisbie....He may not have scored alot of goals at watford but whos to say he couldnt come to town and score 20+ goals......You never know *....I still think we should use more of our upcoming youths and bring more pace to the side its for the besst :P

Priskin is probably the best we can get at that price - if Watford don't hold out for more. The fact that Lisbie and Rhodes have gone indicates there is something up RK's sleeve.

If it does go ahead, it might not be done for Sunday - possibly be there on Tuesday at Shrewsbury?

This guy looks like he could be a class act. Saw his goals last season, and he certainly knows how to finish. At 22 he's still likely to improve aswell. Could be very shrewd business if Keane can pull this off.

I'm a little concerned about this one, had never heard of the guy before TWTD had a story on him. In Keano we trust, hope hes not another bit-part striker for us, had enough of them..

All those negative people that are commenting negative calm Down, Roy keane knows what he is doing, and he believes getting priskin is a good idea for the TEAM, 1.2 million in football now is hardly nothing, good prospect to have him

NOT THE "BIG" NAME I THINK WE WERE ALL HOPING FOR - HOWEVER, HE IS PROVEN AT CCC & INTERNATIONAL LEVEL.

LET'S HOPE HE BANGS A COUPLE IN AT COVENTRY (ASSUMING HE DOES SIGN)
