Cardiff Linked With Garvan Move
Cardiff Linked With Garvan Move
Wednesday, 11th Nov 2009 00:24

Cardiff City want to take out-of-favour midfielder Owen Garvan on loan with a view to signing him on a permanent basis, according to a tabloid newspaper. Garvan hasn’t played for Town since the 2-0 defeat at West Brom in August.

The 21-year-old, who is set to play for the Irish U21s this weekend, recently turned down a loan move to League One Colchester United.

To be honest, I've never been a fan. think he's slow and hasn't got any agression, nor discernible passion, and will never cut it at the top level. Having said that, I think I'd prefer him to Quinn and Trotter, who are worse..

I'd get rid of Quinn and Trotter, Norris is coming back; and we have Colback on loan possibly for longer... and Garvan as backup - sounds strong.. with a view to bringing in someone of true class - who shoots at the goal!

perhaps give him one last chance?

I'll wager a penny that he takes the offer this time.

Have to say, Owen Garvan didn't look as if he was off with either the Fairies or the U21s, at training this morning...

And I made him laugh, the first time I have ever seen him do so.

Whi would blame him for going, out in the cold for no reason and behind Trotter under Keane, fighting relegation at Town. Or being wanted and probably getting a play off place under a very very good manager at Cardiff. Yes it would mean he would have to move to Wales, but I wouldnt blame him, he should be starting at Town.

Certainly better than Trotter. But then so's our cat.

IMO I would let him go, agree that he is better than Trotter, but I would prefer to lose Garvan & see Quinn stay.

PEOPLE wait!! Yes Garvan is slow, but what he has to offer in other departments makes up for that. Huddlestone is slow but still plays week in week out and has been called up to england squad.

This will be a big mistake....... our coaches dont seem to get the best out of players at the moment, when the sign they lose their edge, then when they leave they get it back.

Remember Keane wants to get rid of Garvan but sign Healy, Martin.! Where's the football brain there?? please let me know!

Class player managers with experience can see that ,Quinn ,Trotter, and Healey not in same league which is why we are bottom and Garvan could end up getting promotion and playing in the premier league and is still only 21.

young players dont become bad ovenight ,just badly managed

Only newspaper chat but if true....Cardiff are at the top and we at the bottom. They see something in him/ there is the truth of our season.

OG really seems to divide opinions of 'Town fans - and I can see why.

I've watched him dawdling, getting caught, getting frustrated, going missing. I've also seen him play really well, create openings and make the rest of the midfield (on both sides) look like a bunch of Sunday-leaguers (no offence!)

I don't thing that he's changed as a player under RK - his performances were inconsistent under Jim.

I think that he probably should move on for his own sake - to give himself a fresh start.

Garvan - captain of the Ireland Under 21s and not good enough to make the bench at bottom of the league(-1) Championship side !!!
Keane has no people skills - talk to anyone at the club and they will tell you the guys is a Class A N*b - He has no man management skills - Jim suffered cos he found it hard to separate being one of the lads - keane never was cos he is a big oddball
Garvan is slow - well I would take Garvan over Quinn and Trotter any day
At 21 he has a great future - How many people on this board looked at Ambrose when he came back and thought - what has happened to him
Have you seen him at Palace recently?
Managers can create a good environment or a bad one and I am afraid dear Roy is rule by fear type of guy and that doesnt work
Clegg and Evans are in a hole - get rid now - pay him off - do not spend any more money based on keanes scouting network ...He funded Man U Academy for another season by buying Martin ( donkey) and helping his Cork buddies out of a hole ( Healy) only for them to fall in it afew weeks later
Oh and Peter Taylor was at the club for two days but keane couldn't deal with it
It is all spin and stories
Looking forward to the London AGM - Mr Clegg

Garvan not good enough in Keanes opinion, cant get a game and we are bottom ,Cardiff in with chance of promotion ,playing good football want him ! Says it all i think .

He can't be that bad if Cardiff, a team at the top of the table with a very good shout of promotion and playing some really good football at the moment, can see potential in him.

Will he stay or will he go? I think his decision will show his mental state and desire to succeed in the game. He isn't going to get another chance at Ipswich under the current regime, if he really does wnat to make something of himself, he should go and take the opportunity with both hands.

Good luck Owen whatever you decide.

He's totally finished under keano & he'll clearly never play for us again. It's a shame, but whether you rate him or not, he might as well go to free up some wages money. I reckon he was hanging around to see if keano got the bullet. Now that looks some way off, he will take up the Cardiff offer. He has to go now.

I couldnt help myself!

this is one of the main reasons are manager is crap and needs to go!

I bet he leaves us and flourishes, I hope Keane goes before he does, most new managers would play him in front of trotter quinn martin and healyIf people on here were told that a new manager would come in, sign colin healy and drop garvan you would tell him to not bother!

'NOBRAIN' clearly does have a brain. Summed up the Garvan saga perfectly !
Well done.

JTL279 added 09:21 - Nov 11
Well done 'nobrain'; agree.

Have seen him perform poorly but his commitment has never been in question and he has been known to turn a game.

If anyone here was treated in their job the way he has been treated this season, it would be only natural to consider alternatives. This could be the opportunity he has been waiting for and is certainly a better option than Colchester!

He may have to move to Wales but at least he is wanted and at his age, with his International career to think about, this should not even be a consideration.

Good player, wrongly dropped and now off to a better team than us.

I also love how David Norris has become a better player since hes been injured than he ever was when he was fit. The way people are describing Garvan here as slow and invisible ect. can easily be attributed to Norris as well.

Owen Garvan is vastly superior to Liam Trotter.

Bluebell added 09:40 - Nov 11
I would let him go on loan. If he can prove that he can play well for them, get him back again rather than sell him. That's what we should have done with Jordan Rhodes but of course we can't get him back now.
0

byebyesheepshanks added 09:42 - Nov 11
Er.... we did do that with Jordan Rhodes & that's why, we could end up getting 850 grand for him!

ldnj added 09:44 - Nov 11
Agree with blueherts - don't think Keane is a manager due to management being also about man management. Shame it looks like two of the best youngsters could soon have left (let alone Billy Clarke & Danny Haynes who don't seem to be doing too badly further up the Championship)
