Forest and Scunthorpe Linked With Garvan
Sun 15th Nov 2009 09:50

Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe are the latest clubs to be linked with out-of-favour Town midfielder Owen Garvan. Previously, Cardiff City were claimed to be interested in signing the Irish U21 skipper on loan with a view to a permanent move.

Garvan hasn’t played for Town since the 2-0 defeat at West Brom in August. The 21-year-old recently turned down a loan move to League One Colchester United.

i doubt we would get that much for him , maybe half that.
Puts into perspective the 1-1.5 mill we paid for martin, and 1.7 mill for priskin !
That was huge money for the CCC and they have proved very poor value.

I doubt we'd get a million for him, as we never seem to get good prices (or any money) for players that we sell. I expect we'd get about 0.5M for Garvan and that would be based on top-ups relating to appearances, International caps etc. Of course, the official fee would be undisclosed so we wouldn't be able to judge whether it was a good sale or not. I don't want to see Garvan leave cheaply as I think he has something to offer. He is only 21 remember.

Played in both winning games for Keane at end of last season.
Came on as sub to good effect in couple of early games this season.
Had a bad game and subbed off against West Brom, and not played since.

Lets face it, that doesnt make him any worse than most of our midfield this season (Leadbitter apart) as Keane scratches around to find something that works. Think its a mistake to let him go, and has to be worth another try in a team that has ONLY MANAGED ONE LEAGUE WIN THIS SEASON, even a sub appearance.

There must have been some incident that has rattled Keanes ego, and feel a better man-manager could have got more from Garvan. Big shame.

I think Garvan is good enough for the Championship, otherwise he wouldn't have made over 140 appearances for Ipswich (until this season one of the better teams in the league) and scored 13 goals by the age of 21. Ireland U21 captain too. I agree he is not fast, but on his day he is an excellent passer who can help the midfield control a match.

Liam Trotter is also 21 and I see less reason why he is a regular in the side.

@StinkiusMinkius
He came on as sub against Palace and was shocking ...
He's a talented lad, but I can't remember the last time he played well for us.

I am a Garvan fan, but as said previously . . . many hard core ITFC fans who go to the reserve games have confirmed he needs to do more to warrant a first team place. What more can you say?

I hope he goes to somewhere he's appreciated and wanted rather then being here. Heard he's a moaner, some bloke talked to Keane about him i heard and during a reserve game Troy said rather loudly, "stop f'ing moaning" to Garvan. I feel bad for him with the way he's been treated, then again no one can take anything for granted in this team, oh wait look how thats turning out..

He needs a kick up the arse. Sure he can pass but no teams gonna allow him the time he needs to pick a pass. He cant tackle and is ponderously slow. His performance at WBA was quite shocking. He needs to sort his head out and then he might just be an asset. Keane has been spot on in his assessment of Owen.
