No Keane Comment on Kilbane Move
No Keane Comment on Kilbane Move

Town boss Roy Keane has refused to comment on weekend claims that he made a loan enquiry regarding Hull City left-back or left midfielder Kevin Kilbane. The veteran Irish international is also being linked with Celtic and Bolton Wanderers.

Keane said: “I think it’s so wrong for managers to talk about players at other clubs. We’ve put in enquiries to a number of clubs about different players and we’re getting different feedback and that will continue over the next couple of days.

“It’s wrong to discuss players who are under contract, it’s not fair on the clubs, not fair on the players. We’ll wait and see, as I keep saying.”

The Blues boss says movement is more likely towards the end of the transfer window on February 1st: “It’s very quiet at the moment. We’ve had a busy time with the games but one or two phone calls have been put out and we’re still waiting for some feedback.

“If there are any players coming into the club or going, I expect it to be only one or two. I don’t expect major action here this week, but we know that one or two players could make a big difference to us and we’re still hopeful.

“I’m still talking to other managers, that goes on all the time. I was talking to an assistant manager the other day and we’ll know in the next couple of days if we’re going to carry on with the deals that we’re interested in and try and get them finalised.”

Keane says there have been enquiries regarding members of his squad with one move on the cards: “There may be one going on. It's a loan at the moment.”

The Blues are still wading through the paperwork relating to the signing of 19-year-old American trialist Devann Yao. Some of the clubs Yao was with as a youngster — Metz, Livorno, Pisa and St Mirren — are due compensation and the club are continuing to work through issues relating to that.

The winger is due to play in a behind-closed-doors reserves friendly later in the week after recovering from the bad cut to the calf he received in the Luton reserves game before Christmas.

New goalkeeper Brian Murphy may also be involved in that match if he is over his ankle injury. The Irishman is in with a chance of being on the bench against West Brom on Tuesday.

Town are set to be without skipper Jon Walters for the next couple of games due to the hamstring problem he picked up at Southampton, while Jon Stead will be back from his four-match ban.

Well said Keane. You can't say any more than that. As we have seen in the past, you start speaking out players, fans get their hopes up and things fall through. It must be difficult to be asked the same querstions over and over again. With the amount of tabloid bulls*it that goes on (seriously how many transfer stories in the media actually happen, stories for stories worth) it must be frustrating to keep things on the down low in order to keep the player off others radars.

Going to be a tough game tomorrow but I am looking forward to it. If we get at them, we can win this game.

Good luck boys

Danny Welbeck is the sort of player I had hoped Keane would bring to Portman Road. We play Preston Saturday, so it'll be a good chance to compare Welbeck with our own on-loan striker, Stern John. ;-)

Mark it would be interesting yes but how about looking at the attributes they bring, Welbeck is pace, and goal scoring, John is heskey, he is Sidebi, he is Adebola, tall, stocky and builds play, not bought in to score goals!, so by all means compare but you're comparing the wrong players.

I'm sorry superblueflude but at the end of the day, what people are trying to say is that John is awful and welbeck is just the kind of player we need.
I find it sooo hard to believe how some players come into a new club and no try. Players like John and Priskin. Watching them play is SOOO frustrating, they train every week and they find it hard to work hard when it matters!!!

I have full confidence in Keane and I am excited by the future but Transfer windows for us are SOOO boring! We are only linked to players that we dont need!! Welbeck is someone ideal with his links with United. Fair enough Daddy has helped his son, but players like Wilshere etc are available. But never linked!

I'm praying for someone exciting to join us!!! COYB!

Dre -all the links - where do they come from? not Keane not the club but papers, we'll be linked to everyone and maybe suddenly out of nowhere we see Ipswich Sign a striker etc - who cares.

What i'm saying is that John does actually bring a lot to the team, for me it all depends on how you watch him or how you want him to play, if you watch and know he's there to be a support forward then fine but expecting him to run around, chasing lost balls isn't his game and he wasn't bought in for that.

I suppose it depends on what kind of fan you are, if you watch football for what it is and understand what players bring to a team fine, but if not then i guess you'd just go on goals scored, lost balls one etc - something which in itself is a completeky different skill - attribute.

So stop the negativity on John and actually watch him for christs sake before being negative week in week out.

If I'm honest, agree with the disappointment of the welback news, was hoping he was a player linked with us, he will bag a hat full of goals in the Championship.

Dos Santos is on his way to Galatasaray also.

Still, Stead is back tomorrow night and I can't wait to chant:
""Wooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
John Stead is on fire!!""
When he scpres of course!

Superflude .. most posters on here yourself included agree we need a regular scorer as did Keane before he got John on loan check the report ,he was not brought here to hold the ball up he was brought here to score ,we dont need someone to hold the ball up ,we need someone to score . So i think out of the choice John or Welbeck most would choose Welbeck but he may flop so we will see ,but we are sadly lacking pace in our team and need a Welbeck character

I am 100% with you on that one Blueflude. I am sick to the back teeth of 1 dimensional fans that don't see the whole picture. I am sorry if I offend anyone but try and see the whole pitch. Try taking 5 mintues out of a game and watch some players that don't have the ball, a bit like sky player cam.

Welbeck has gone to preston purely on Daddy's say so and to help his bosses son out. Like flude said papers are so fickle and will write stories for stories sake and with who our manager is and the fact that we have a bit of money, we will be linked to every player and their dog. Imagine being a Liverpool fan or Man utd fan, their fans have their hopes picked up and dropped on who they are going to buy all the time. But until the ink is dry on the contract, a deal is not a done deal.

Brockley ... we have been linked to Harte, Mceverly,Wallace,Naylor and Kilblane and you dont think we are chasing a left back get real .
And it is you and Flude who need to take a step back and look at the whole picture of 5 wins in 29 games this season , last week you were defending Priskin now John put the two of them upfront together and see where it gets us ,Div 1 !!
Counago is critisised for not scoring enough but is a link player ,yet people defend John and Priskin ,Keane will soon get rid of both

Surco - yes I would bring someone in - however If i'm right - Keane's words when bringing in John was that he would bring something different to the team.
If what you say is true and that Keane brought him in to score goals then i'd be worried about that has john hadn't scored in what a year?.
I think the team has goals in it, look at our previous results, 3 against blackpool qpr etc, 3 against Sheff, 3 against Don as well, part of me thinks a nice balanced squad will do a left footed left back, a left footed winger, with Stead up front and a choice - Stead for me can get 20 goals but for me, even if a striker isn't bought we can still get the goals we need, after all if you don't concede it only takes one goal to win.

Surco - I would never put the two up front together they wouldn't compliment each other. And i've not defended Priskin at all - I actually said get rid. but if we dont't then maybe he can improve.
Look at Peters not so long ago he was a loanee to all teams available now a very good versatile player.
And Surco - as your saying look at the whole picture then why do you just carry on stating the whole 5 wins our of 29 etc etc - yes thats not a good figure however 1 league loss in 14 is pretty good, and we are improving game by game - forget the cup game really not important!.

I didn't say we weren't chasing anyone, I said that we will be linked to a lot of players and until contracts are signed and they are having their pictures taken, then these stories don't mean anything. Every gets really carried away with who or who we aren't signing. If the actual players we want to sign are announced then that will alert other clubs. Transfers have changed so much and so few good players are out there. I am sure Roy keane knows what he is doing.

In regards to your other ccomments, yes we haven't had the best season but we are turning it aorund and funny how Stern John has been apart of the squad for sveral of those games, didn't he score an important goal at the weekend or was I just seeing things? I defended Priskin as I would defend any town player that is worth a shot. Try watching john for 5 minutes tomorrow night (If he plays) you may be suprised or john lets me down totally and I look a little silly.

i bet that Welbeck will not score any goals whilst on loan at Preston, i wasnt overly keen when i heard we'd signed Stern John, but having watched him play he does win loads in the air and holds the ball up really well (welbeck would not have gotten his head to Roseniors cross thats for certain), i agree that we do require a pacey striker but i dont think Welbeck will score that many goals

streety86 added 14:11 - Jan 25
Please please please bring in a striker!!! Stern John isn't going to get us many goals, let's hope steady can get back on scoring form tomorrow night

Bet he will,so will Patrick Agyemang who Bristol City have just signed,do rate him. Healy or Philips would make a difference, most of us agree on that Gio has gone,Hulse paper talk----------Come on Keano a late surge to the play offs starting with a win at home tomorrow night---remind our players apart from Newcastle at home,i think that was the worse we have played. superblueflude- me been negative week in week out? think ur getting me confused with someone else mate. I have supported keane and the blues all season, and have never wanted keane out.

Your comment about em judging football on goals is the most ridiculous comment EVER!! How do teams get 3 points and win leagues, cups etc? by scoring goals? I can completly see your point about what John is there for and i wouldnt expect him to chase lost balls etc... but if ur happy to be paying for someone who has scored 1 goal and will just add to the wages of ALL our strikers, then u must think we have ALOT of money. Lets be honest, he doesnt cut it!! We cant be happy with OK now!
