Stead Expects Summer Exit
Stead Expects Summer Exit
Wednesday, 7th Apr 2010 15:51

Striker Jon Stead says he expects he'll leave the Blues in the summer if Roy Keane remains as Town manager. The former England U21 international is currently on loan at Coventry City.

Stead said: "I think everything will depend on whether Ipswich make any changes in the summer and whether the manager is still there for next season.

"If he is, I will be moving I would have thought. I can't see him wanting to keep me if he has allowed me to go out on loan. I will have to gauge that at the end of the season. Once you go into pre-season, decisions will be made."

Stead says he will spend the summer back in Suffolk with his wife set to give birth to their first child: "The baby will be born in Ipswich because we have got a house still there and I don't know what is going to happen next season. We'll live down there over May and June and some of July and see what happens.”

The frontman, who has scored twice in nine starts and one sub appearance for the Sky Blues, joined Town from Sheffield United for £600,000 in the summer of 2008 and has another year left on his Town contract.

Well... I am not sure there. If Roy has some cash to splash during the summer break and get Murphy on permanent and one more good striker then we can leave without Stead. But if we don't land two decent strikers I say keep Stead and get rid of Pablo instead (if we need to trim the squad). Stead is not the best but apart from Murphy (who is not even our player)he is the best we have right now...

Has never really reached his undoubted potential at any club he's been at, best for him and us if he moves on, hopefully with someone decent coming the other way?

we dont create enought chances to have stead leading our attack, he will always miss more than he scores. a good league 1 player

He is another one of the bottler crew - they dont deserve to wear the shirt.....!

Ship the garbage out Roy and get some lads in with a bit of heart and steel about them, we need to be fearless next season, take it to anyone..........!

For a tall striker he cant header, his first touch is one of the worst ive ever seen on a professional footballer, im sorry Jon you worked hard but just arent good enough

I always liked Stead, he was a bit hit and miss but when he scored alot of important goals for us.

I think Bruce, Stead and Garvan are all gone in the summer. I hope Keane admits hes made a mistake sells Martin and Priskin as well, just not upto the job.

Best of luck to Jon, a good League 1 player I would agree with that.

When it comes to Martin and Priskin, I'd like to see them leave, and not for an enormous loss, although I think that will happen anyway.

In my opinion we just need to strengthen our attacking options for next season, and there really is an abundance of talent in League 1 and 2 right now in that department. Couple that with a couple of experienced hardened pros and we have a very squad I think.

Bring on another summer of being linked with a different player every day again...

Can't see him coming back now! Was a good player at the time but currently we have better and hopefully we will have players with a better scoring rate next season!

Re: the Pablo v Stead debate - let Steady go, keep Pabs! Pablo much more skill and considerably better ball control. To be honest neither will score 20+ goals but I would rather have Pablo as he is more likely to set them up and hold the ball up. I've never understood why Keano doesn't try putting Pabs behind the front two in a playmaker role linking the midfield and strikers! I think Healy is a player who would relish having them set up and put through! And for those who are about to say "whose position does he take"... controversially... Norris or Leadbitter. For me, our big problem this year is that our midfield ends up playing deep or playing catch up whenever we break and our opposition end up having bags of time to get back and defend!

Another player who dislikes Keane.
Maybe it's time for a new manager?

Although I realise we had this conversation at the time of his loan move - when many slated Roy for it - bottom line is Stead is not prolific enough. Okay he scored 2 goals early in his loan spell, but nothing in his last 7. Very poor record this season for us and very inconsistent. He's not good enough in a promotion chasing team.
