Millwall Targeting Town Pair
Millwall Targeting Town Pair
Tuesday, 13th Apr 2010 10:22

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett says he could be interested in signing current loanee Liam Trotter and his Blues team-mate Kevin Lisbie in the summer. Trotter has been a key man in Millwall’s push up League One in the second half of the season, while the Lions were amongst the clubs chasing Lisbie, who is currently on loan at Colchester, during the January transfer window.

Jackett says he would like Trotter to stay at the Den beyond the end of his loan spell: “Liam’s made a good impression. I would like to see him here next season. He has done well, as have our other loan players, Shaun Batt and Jon Obika.

“Liam is a young player looking for a chance to show what he can do and we have given him that platform.”

Trotter, 21, is out of contract this summer and appears likely to move on with his chances having been limited at Portman Road since he lost his place in the side in October. In January he rejoined Millwall — who he was previously on loan with in 2006 - for the remainder of the season and has helped them to second in League One.

Lisbie has another year on his contract with Town but appears unlikely to play for the club again. Prior to the January transfer window boss Roy Keane revealed that the Blues had received interest in the striker from various clubs with Southampton amongst those targeting the 31-year-old, the Saints eventually opting to sign Southend’s Lee Barnard instead.

Jackett says the London-based former Jamaica international is on his list of summer options: “We will have to see what happens with Kevin Lisbie.

“My scouts are looking at the market for me and we need to know who is out of contract and available. We contacted Ipswich when we had a lot of players out injured, but since then others have come in or come back and got fit.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle have announced that they have sold out of tickets for Town’s final away game of the season at St James’ Park on April 24th. The already-promoted Magpies hope that the match will see them break their own record Championship attendance of 49,644 set when the played Middlesbrough earlier in the season.

it's nice to see clubs are looking at our youngsters when they need cover, shows a good connection with the lower league clubs, and maybe one day we might get a gem back as well.

Both players, should be shipped out. Are not good enough to get into the starting 11, good luck to the pair of them if they do go though.

Sounds like a good deal for all concerned. Let's hope it comes off. And good luck to them both.

Well said superblueflude, totally agree. Trotter isn't good enough but at least he put the effort in. I hope Lisbie goes to Millwall and ends up in their reserves, the bloke is scum.

Trotter - a shame he hasn't shown his potential in this division with us, but he may well be able to with Millwall - even though he might not be a town player, i do hope that in 2-3 years time he can establish himself in this league.

Good luck to Liam , he tried hard and was wanted by scunny aswell so cant be a bad player. probably not good enough for us , especially with norris , lead and maybe colback.
as for lisbie, a terrible attitude towards us so bye bye.

Also why didnt we get shot of him in january if millwall wanted him ? It doesnt make business sense ?! Probably find crafty colu are only paying part of his wages and dont forget they pocketed 700k fee on top.

Trotter will almost certainly be playing championship football next season - Millwall haven't lost since he went there and are now in second place and well set for automatic promotion. Suspect we will regret letting him go before long - he has a lot of aspects to his game, not least a ball winner who can keep the ball and pass. (Norris wins a lot of ball at the moment but his passing is often poor).
It is depressing that these days the Ipswich crowd can be so hostile to young players coming into what was then a struggling side playing new tactics.

Bluefox i think the problem is that yuo can't play Trotter, Norris and leadbitter unless you play 4-5-1 and all three are similar players as well.

i;d rather let a player go and realise his potential elswhere than maybe ruining it by leaving him on the bench.

I thought my "good luck to both of them" might spark off a bit of reaction. Not controversial as far as Trotter is concerned because the lad obviously did (does) his best (and looked really good in that WBA match that proved to be something of a negative turning point in his career because of the sending off - I know 'cos I was there). Lisbie seemed like a good idea at the time. As it happened, he didn't work out for us, but he didn't exactly get a lot of encouragement as he tried to establish himself in the team so I'm not surprised he wasn't keen to return. Or is there something else I've missed? Further reaction expected soon.....

Steve - He got support from us in his first season even though he was pants, he then wouldn't commit to moving closer to the training ground which we all tend to do when we move jobs - dependnig on travel distances and as a footballer his was quite far, he then made comments on how he doesn't want to play for us again - the club paying his wages!.

I will believe Lisbie has left when I see it! I think we put him on such high wages that no club would take the player we spent about £600k on, even on a free transfer. The best we could do was a loan where we continued to pay a proportion of the wages, and I suspect the same may be true next season.

It's a pity Trotter didn't come good. Not quite good enough for our side with promotion ambitions, but he is young and may make it as a reasonable Championship player perhaps.

superblueflude, re Trotter: Norris and leadbitter may be just about our best central midfield (on paper) at the moment but they have hardly been dominating midfield and I am doubtful that we will make a promotion challenge with that pairing. The best recent performance (in my opinion) was against Cardiff when we played Norris and Garvan - a ball winner and someone to spray it around. Suspect that in the medium term Trotter, with a more all round game, has more to offer than Norris. I was always puzzled why Magilton bought a central midfielder in Norris and then would only play him wide. Suspect his poor passing was the problem. Of course if Norris could start getting among the goals on a regular basis then things might look a bit different.

Do you think they'll take healy and martin as well?
0

superblueflude added 16:19 - Apr 13
agree - for me leadbitter is the problem, he was bought in when we didn't really need him, although i have said garvan isn't showing what he can do, still he can do it and can show it it should have been bought out, but i think keane doesn't bother with him as we have leadbitter??

Bottom line is both can go. Trotter is a young lad who in my opinion is not good enough - yet I wish him well. As for Lisbie, I believe he is truely awful, yet I doubt Jim 'I have never made a bad signing' will agree!

There are plenty of others I woul add to the list of those who can go; Martin, Priskin, Stead, Pim, C. Healy, Bruce to name but a few.

superblueflude (12:33) re-Lisbie. Ok, point taken! Also, it is true he doesn't now offer us anything we haven't already got. At the time I thought he might.

i would only keep b murphy ALB + a better goalie needed than these two
d wright-new contract and stay , o connor , new contract but we need another LB better
mc A and delaney. leadbitter peters, smith and norris and (colback hopefully) . wickham , pablo as squad/in the hole maybe and the rest can go. Priskin , maybe try for a few games if he comes back.

dont bother with healy, healy, quinn, murphy ( too expensive for a PL flop) r wright, rosenior, martin, edwards priskin see above , bruce ainsley ,brown, lambe , yeo, stead , bruce, upson , walters, lisbie, trotter and Im sure Ive missed some DEAD wood to add to that list. So we need loads of new players who will need gelling and where is roy going to get them from ? sunderland ? theyve run out of rejects after healy murphy and edwards .

Can't say anything bad about Trotters attitude and approach, just that as a player he's not quite good enough. I'll wish him luck where ever he ends up. As for Lisbie, he'll not be playing for the club again anyway so I don't think it will take too much of an offer to get him away.
