Wickham to Miss Start of Season
Wickham to Miss Start of Season
Tuesday, 27th Jul 2010 08:59

Striker Connor Wickham injured is ankle in training yesterday and will be out for six weeks. Reports of the England U17 international suffering the knock first surfaced on the TWTD Message Board last night.

The 17-year-old is understood to have left Playford Road with a cast on his ankle and is not expected to play for the Blues until September.

Wickham’s absence leaves Town short on attacking options with Jon Stead expected to be joining Bristol City, Kevin Lisbie also likely to be on his way, Pablo Couñago out of favour and Tamás Priskin continuing to misfire in pre-season.

*&%$£"@~*!!!!!

This makes the search for a striker all the more critical. Keano, Clegg and Evans - all stops out to get Chopra now!!

TWO strikers needed now. Can't rely on Priskin or Counago.

However this is very bad luck. I bet Delaney and Wickham would be two of the first names on Roy's team sheet and both are injured!

That has really put the cat among the pigeons. Looks like Lisbie and Priskin to lead the attack!!!

This club is a mess, ME was meant to change everything for us, supply the money, the quality manager. Why did we ever let Rhodes go? This is when we need him. Get better soon Connor

Pablo and Priskin up front for Middlesborough then, I wonder if I can get a refund on my train ticket? We really need a striker now if we're to avoid a start like last year. Come on Tamas, your time to shine has come.

For God sake. Just what we needed.

The funny thing is, I bet some people will blame Keane for this.

I'm ever the optimist. But I'm worried now. Things are going horribly pear-shaped.

A blow - another "3 monther" for one of our key players...would be foolish to panic buy though - much rather we bide our time and get the right player, and perhaps look to the loan market instead.

Of the remaining strikers, I'm still hopeful that Priskin can rediscover some form, and I'd much rather we held onto Stead and got rid of Pablo (and Lisbie, natch). (Ended up having to sell Rhodes last summer because Pablo wouldn't scram to Swansea...)

Unbelievable!

But at least we know now why RK pulled the plug in Bruces move - he's going to play him up front!

I dont believe it.
Ever the optimist I am finding it difficult to find any thing positive to say. I honestly thought with Conor leading the line and a good start we could carry the momentum through and have a good season. We were goalshy last season and our options appear more limited this time.
Wonder if I can get my money back from the bookies?

Will be interesting to see how Bruce fairs in a lone striker role, maybe he'll find his perfect position, like a reverse Richard Naylor ...

Id say another 2 strikers and 1 on loan is very high up on the wish list now, unless keano has seen Fulops secret attackive talents :P

just look on the bright sidem he is still very young and will heal quickly and no club is going to want to play £10 million for an injured player.

STILL HAVE FAITH !!!

Oh dear me... whatever to do. Maybe RK will play Bruce up front - that's why he hasn't gone to Sheff U...

I think we have little choice but to give Priskin & Pabs a go. I wouldn't discount or exclude Pabs anyway - I still think that he has enough about him to make a difference to this side. OK we won't get 15 - 20 goals, but he has skill and can find a decent pass (for Chopra to read hopefully!).

Problem we have is that all our striking options are second strikers - of them, I think Pabs is the best option.

We may need to buy a player... call me old fashioned.

You must put things into perspective.

Yesterday I discovered that my beautiful 15 year old has cancer.

Get a life guys and live life to the full.....

The closer we are getting to the start of the season the weaker our team is getting. Our competitors over the border are getting stronger, they even beat Newcastle the other day. So let us hope we can do something in the nexr 10 days, or woe betide us at Middlesborough !!!!!!!

Deluded Keane lovers, please do what you do best - put your magic spin on things, cos frankly I think we are in the Frank Zappa!

Why are we getting rid of stead again ? :S , last time i checked he scored usualy whilst he was played.he should be the player to stay and score us the goals whatever bristol city are offering (200 k ) is not good enough for me.

No, this isn't keanes fault.
However, if we start poorly, we also don't want to hear you keane-worshippers saying we only started poorly because wickham and Delaney got injured.

Boro are a decent side but have added quality. They already had the likes of Barry Robson & Wheater - good players. Boyd is a decent striker (for free) and I'm afraid I can only see one result... sorry boys.

Even if we start to shape our side with buys before that game, its not much chance to get sorted prior to kick off - not gopod really.

A long hard season awaits.

As a previous contribution stated - perspective required.
