Swap Deal With Cardiff Unlikely Monday, 16th Aug 2010 08:49
Boss Roy Keane says the proposed swap involving Cardiff City’s Ross McCormack and Jon Stead looks unlikely to go through. The Town manager felt the deal was always going to be complicated and there are other sides interested in Stead, who has already turned down moves to Bristol City and Blackpool this summer.
Keane said: “We’ll see what happens over the next few days because there are one or two clubs in for Steady. That one was always going to be the most complicated one because when you’re doing a swap deal you’ve got wages and agents to consider.
“With a few clubs in for Steady, he has every entitlement to speak to other clubs and I’d advise him to do that anyway. He’s got to pick the right club and that could upset the deal anyway. That’s going to be the hardest one to get sorted.”
Keane has been impressed with Stead’s attitude and performances this season, despite the uncertainty regarding his future: “Steady’s not once come to see me and said ‘it doesn’t look like I’m in your plans’ or any nonsense like that.
“He’s done it properly where we’ve had an offer accepted and I’ve spoken to Steady. He’s done it the proper way.”
Bristol City could be set to renew their interest in the former Huddersfield, Blackburn, Sunderland and Sheffield United man according to rumours amongst Robins supporters.
Meanwhile, Cardiff boss Dave Jones has confirmed that he is weighing up whether to sell McCormack: "I try and keep my best players, but if it means I've got to move one or two out to try and get some in then I'll have to do that. If that means it's one of the players the fans like, then that's my job."

suffolksam - McCormack is a completely different type of player to Stead. He is the missing link for us in terms of an attacking left sided attacker for our new formation, who has proven he can score at this level.
Proven penalty taker too, which I don't think we have had since Miller left.
I don't see this as a replacement for Stead, that will be Scotland or another striker.
Suffolk Sam / TractorMan - I'm guessing we'd be in for McCormack to play on the right side of our front 3, as a replacement for Walters (who'll be gone by the end of this week...). We've already got 2 left-sided attackers in Townsend / Civelli...
so anyone know if Scotland made his decision (he had 24 hours thursday to make it and still seen nothing!. The fact Keane concerntrated on the Stead moving this way tact and not on McCormack coming here could be a smokescreen and maybe he is one of the 3?? Chopra is quoted as saying 'some players when they know they are leaving dont play well but Ross was brilliant against Burton', suggest along with the shirt throwing that he is definately on his way, but where??
Buy the player and keep Stead - He was outstanding on Saturday, and I have not always been a fan of Steads! Not by a long shot but I felt we only had 10 players on Saturday allowing for Priskins inept contribution and he was in the top three performers for work rate and contribution.. He must be twisting Keanos arm to play! Stead has a real hunger from what i saw and that attitude is worth a lot in comparison with pre-madonnas who want out and make demands from the manager.. COYB's!
Blueboots - McCormack is very left footed, so i'd say we play Edwards on the right otherwise we are losing the ability to have a natural right footed player on the right. Not the end of the world, but unbalances the team and I wouldn't want McCormack in front of Peters as he is not known for his work ethic or tracking back!
We don't know for sure, but Civelli is obviously still far more seriously injured than thought so we need more cover. Civelli can also play LB, so Keane may think he is cover for there too.
McCormack can also play up front if needed, just off the main striker.
we need to keep stead. After seeing him saturday he chased and he was good we allready lost one got player (walters) we cant afford to lose this one too
Yes, if £300k is what Cardiff want - when can he start? Peanuts for a decent player. Stead doing a proper job and going about moving on in the right way - unlike Walters sadly. Think Steady is being the pro that many in the game says he is. He's done well - whether he's playing well because he's in the shop window or whether he's playing st stay - who knows. But RK has made up his mind and Stead will move on. Pablo? Gardening leave iuntil Summer 2011.
i have read that McCormack didnt fit in at Cardiff after Chopra came as he wanted to play up front and didnt like playing on the wing...........therefor the Stead move would be a like for like switch...
zzzzzzzzzzzzz heres a shock, town dither in transfer market. As i predicted, last week, the macormack thing will fizzle out ,the jason scotland thing will,i predict also end in farce, its the usual clap trap. Its pretty obvious we only get freebies, loans,or past it players nowadays,so you deluded fans better get off cloud cookoo land.
Not Quite how i put it but i like a person who gets straight to the point...
I'm actually surprised at how so many people are still a bit negative on this forum..... i know your always going to get people on here that just like a good old moan, but this is probably the best start we've made to a season in 6 years. Judging in the teams we've played that is. (Please don't quote me on that) Surely everyone can see that Kean has started to turn this club around, like he said he would once he had the players. Boro, Exeter and saturdays games were clear indications that the Squad he has want to play for him and the club and surely thats what we've been crying out for?? if we make one or two additions to that plus get Conner back from injury then i think we have one of the strongest squads in the league and defo challenging not only for a top 6 finish but even top 2.
Lets all get behind our club, by all means have your say, But put a bit of positivity on it and start believing that we are a great team, we have a great club and we are the best supporters in the Championship.......lets be that 12th man at home games and really get behind our team and manager........
