Swap Deal With Cardiff Unlikely
Swap Deal With Cardiff Unlikely
Monday, 16th Aug 2010 08:49

Boss Roy Keane says the proposed swap involving Cardiff City’s Ross McCormack and Jon Stead looks unlikely to go through. The Town manager felt the deal was always going to be complicated and there are other sides interested in Stead, who has already turned down moves to Bristol City and Blackpool this summer.

Keane said: “We’ll see what happens over the next few days because there are one or two clubs in for Steady. That one was always going to be the most complicated one because when you’re doing a swap deal you’ve got wages and agents to consider.

“With a few clubs in for Steady, he has every entitlement to speak to other clubs and I’d advise him to do that anyway. He’s got to pick the right club and that could upset the deal anyway. That’s going to be the hardest one to get sorted.”

Keane has been impressed with Stead’s attitude and performances this season, despite the uncertainty regarding his future: “Steady’s not once come to see me and said ‘it doesn’t look like I’m in your plans’ or any nonsense like that.

“He’s done it properly where we’ve had an offer accepted and I’ve spoken to Steady. He’s done it the proper way.”

Bristol City could be set to renew their interest in the former Huddersfield, Blackburn, Sunderland and Sheffield United man according to rumours amongst Robins supporters.

Meanwhile, Cardiff boss Dave Jones has confirmed that he is weighing up whether to sell McCormack: "I try and keep my best players, but if it means I've got to move one or two out to try and get some in then I'll have to do that. If that means it's one of the players the fans like, then that's my job."

Tractorman, he is right footed. Takes 30 yard free kicks right footed, no way you can do that with your weaker foot.

Shame if we don't Sign McCormack quality player, scored 23 goals couple of seasons ago, was played out on the wing last season a position he doesn't like to play, so not sure if he would fit into are system if we were to get Scotland to, but reading this morning papers, we have asked Wigan to drop the price from 1 million to 900,000, which is apparently holding up the deal, A good player at this level but at 31it is a lot of money. As For Stead can't fault his commitment to the club unlike certain other players, but don't see him as a 20 goal a season man, which is what we need, at he is reportly on 12,000 a week, which is a lot, don't think he is worth that sort of money, so I guess McCormack is on same sort of money which is why a swap deal was on the cards? Lets hope one of these deals can be sorted out! quality player, scored 23 goals couple of seasons ago, was played out on the wing last season a position he doesn't like to play, so not sure if he would fit into are system if we were to get Scotland to, but reading this morning papers, we have asked Wigan to drop the price from 1 million to 900,000, which is apparently holding up the deal, A good player at this level but at 31it is a lot of money. Hi all.

Could there be another swap on the cards instead of this one, heard the reason the Scotland deal is not going through is because they are after Walters so we are sorting out a new Price with them-intersting if true. Scotland + £1-£1.5 million perhaps?

season ticketsteve that makes sense to me....... the way in which Keane has publically said this one is almost done would suggest that player has agreed terms, medical done etc just waiting for the final agreement which every way it goes, straight sale or swap. hmmmm a player who scores very few, set up very few and no longer wants to wear a town shirt for a 20+ a season man plus some cash i do hope you are right!!!!!

No doubt McCormack would be a great addition to the squad, but would be a shame to lose Stead - as he gives 100% & has been a true pro despite the uncertainty surrounding his future. Unlike certain other players... (& not just Walters)

Though in fairness he's not the 20 goal a season player we crave - it's a shame no one has shown an intrest in Pablo, if he was to leave then we would have no reason to sell Stead surely? But sadly there seems zero chance of that.

Hopefully Walters will sod off soon, allowing us to use the cash to strengthen...

Personally i think its madness to sell/exchange Stead. He's shown great committment to the team and in light of Leadbitter's bad injury i'd keep JS and play him in attacking midfield role. He has great energy. good passing and will score the odd goal. If he'd had a decnt sriker alongside him on saturady we'd have 6 points.
as for MacCormack, its clear Cardiff want to sell not excahange so with JW off we'll have the money. As for our best strike combo (assuming Scotland signs) who will be lead the line. Priskin didnt lok comfortable and as Stead wont head the ball we have no outlet for long clearances. Scotland is too short so i hope RK ahs someone in mind! I'd look around the lower leagues rather than overpriced and overrated ex Premiership players.

Denham Blue -

"blue bagel, another plastic cockney i see all this jog on rubbish lol.To much fotball factory mate!"

I was born in Bury St Edmunds, I grew up in Suffolk and I've had a season ticket in the North Stand since I was 13. I am not a Cockney. Jog on is just a more polite way of saying 'f8ck off'. Perhaps you'd prefer the latter?

Also, 'fotball' is not a real game, and you've picked the wrong 'to'.

Additionally, everything you've written on the message boards is semi-literate, negative rubbish. I don't know about anyone else, but I think it's time the positive majority took a bit of a stand on these boards (and maybe in parts of the North Stand).

It doesn't matter if you're pro-Keane, anti-Keane or still a bit unsure - what matters is getting behind our team and letting the lads know on a Saturday afternoon and a Tuesday evening that we'll back them to the hilt.

We're going places this season - maybe the moaners want to come along for the ride, but if they don't then maybe they should 'jog on' up the A140. You'll find some sad-acts to keep you company there...

PS comeonthegoodtimes - I agree with your posts. Well put.

Bluebagel "here here" totally agree ...... dont think its about being positive, negative or otherwise its about loving football and having a REAL view on what is going on.

If Stead is only valued at £200K (which is madness!) then surely we could find £200K cash to add to the McCormack deal to make it happen? Stead clearly wants to stay here so let him stay and give him a chance I say, especially after his impressive start to the season.

It's getting a little tetchy on here today isn't it... calm down, calm down... (And no I'm not scouse!)

Back to the subject: I still think RK is right to be moving Stead on... he will not score 20+ goals and Scotland is a far better option in my opinion.

As far as the Stead/Priskin debate from Saturday, I would point out that when Priskin played as the point man (Centre Striker) against both West Ham and Middlesbrough he got into a number of goal scoring positions and took a decent goal against the latter. On Saturday he looked a bit at sea as he was effectively playing as a winger (Attacking midfielder) and it didn't suit him. Stead on Saturday ran around a lot and was a decent link player, but didn't once get into those dangerous positions in the box. I can recall a few instances where balls were being fizzed across the six yard box and Stead was nowhere to be seen. If you take a step back and consider the way Stead plays, his “normal” movement is away from goal and out to the wings, so given that, I think RK would have got a better performance from Priskin (and no real drop in performance from Stead) by having played them the other way round… maybe so, maybe not, but I think it would have suited Priskin better and probably Stead. (Don't get me wrong Stead had a decent game, but was not a goal threat)

If we do get Scotland and McCormack in, I can't see either of them getting too much pitch time to be honest… The front 3 will probably be 3 from, Wickham, Scotland, McCormack and Townsend.

Cardiff won't need Mcormack when they get Bellamy on loan. There seems to be a lot happening behind the scenes over these deals. Seems to me it's like buying a bloody house and being in a long chain.

Can't see why Keane wants to get rid of Stead, granted he's on a big wage but has always played well for us and has never shown the need publicly to move away. Maybe he's more of a professional than some others at the club. I guess 12k a week if thats right is too much to warm the bench if and when Scotland gets here.

Let hope these players come in this week and we get rid of the distractions/disruptions (Walters) just as soon. It's been a really good start to the season and i'd hate us to loose ground by having a depleted squad.

Keane and the team are winning me over, the players mentioned would be good for the team.

Up the town!!!
