Murphy Out for Three Months Thursday, 23rd Dec 2010 17:02
Keeper Brian Murphy will be out for around three months having suffered a broken ankle in training this morning. The 27-year-old was taken to hospital but the injury didn’t require surgery.
Murphy, who joined the Blues a year ago from League of Ireland side Bohemians, has made four league appearances this season, most recently the 1-0 defeat at Preston.
The Irishman has played in all five Carling Cup ties but will now miss the two-legged semi-final with Arsenal and also the FA Cup third round match at Chelsea.
Márton Fülöp returned from his ankle injury to face Leicester at the weekend, while Arran Lee-Barrett will now be on the bench with Ian McLoughlin on standby to come in should another keeper suffer a problem.
Meanwhile, veteran defender Mark Kennedy says his problems with hamstring injuries since joining the Blues in the summer have been frustrating: "One of my biggest disappointments this year is not being able to offer a bit more to the manager and the lads.
"That's something that's been a little bit personal and something I've actually been a bit embarrassed about."
Kennedy has played Town's last two matches and is likely to be at left-back against Watford on Boxing Day.

Sign up Smithies, can then get rid of Murphy, Lee-Barrett and/or McLoughlin. Quality young keeper! Maybe even get a deal for Rhodes as well. it's all a pipe dream though... COYB

What a shame he deserves to play in the cup after coming so far with the team!!! How on earth does a gatekeeper break an ankle in training???!!!

Was it a five-a-side game and Keano went in hard??

no offence to murphy, but we wont miss him .. his command of the 6 yard box is as poor as i have ever seen at town. clive baker & laurie sivell were much smaller ,but had a better command of the box

Unfortunate that he will miss the Arsenal games given his role in the cup so far. Get well soon Brian! CGH - Huddersfield want £3m for Smithies. If we spend £3m on a player I'd be disappointed if they were a goalkeeper!

Bad luck for Murphy and yet another injury for us. Luckily we still have Fulop - who in my opinion is the better keeper. ALB is an ample back-up so no real issue - but nevertheless feel sorry for Brian and I wish him a speedy recovery.

HowdonBlue Agree with you entirely. Saw Clive Baker at Highbury one Boxing Day stop everything that Arsenal threw his way, and we got a 0-0 out of it.

Thats bad luck for Murph. Hopefully this means we can at least have some continuity in 1 position in the team hopefully giving our back 4 more confidence

Mungo - Really? This I didn't know. Maybe a package deal with Rhodes, don't we have a 20% sell on fee? That's a lot to spend on a youth keeper, I agree.
