Chopra Targeting Premier League as Evans Linked Again
Chopra Targeting Premier League as Evans Linked Again
Saturday, 11th Jun 2011 08:17

New striker Michael Chopra has targeted scoring the goals which fire the Blues back to the Premier League as Town are reported to be in talks with another frontman. Sheffield United’s Ched Evans is said to be speaking to the Blues and Leicester City regarding a £1.2 million switch with the Blades having been relegated to League One.

Former Cardiff man Chopra said: "The club is ambitious. Ipswich want to be back in the Premier League and hopefully I can play my part in that being achieved. I've scored goals at this level before and I want to do the same for Ipswich.

"I'm looking forward to reporting for pre-season [on June 29th] and getting down to work with the other players, getting on with the job of trying to win promotion.

"There are good players here. It's a club with a lot of potential. It's a club that has been in the Premier League before and I'm here to help them get back to that level again."

Wales international Evans has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions this summer and, like Chopra, was previously a target of former boss Roy Keane.

Meanwhile, released Town striker Kevin Lisbie says he’s not sure whether he will be staying with loan club Millwall: "Unfortunately, we are a long way from agreeing terms at the moment.

"I spoke to the gaffer at the end of the season and he told me that he was going to offer me something.

"He did offer me something, but I'm not keen on what he offered me, so I'm hoping that they will come back to me with an improved deal, but we will have to wait and see.”

Colchester have also been linked with their former striker but manager John Ward says he’s not yet made the 32-year-old an offer.

Another ex-Blues frontman, Dean Bowditch, has been linked with the U’s having turned down a new contract at Yeovil.

Elsewhere, a report in South Yorkshire says exiting Town defender Troy Brown will sign for Rotherham this week, as first revealed by TWTD a fortnight ago.

Think Evans would be a good signing to go with Chopra. Not the first striker to have a poor spell at Sheffield united

Evans looked such a talent in his early career at man city, the thought of him and chopra up front is absolutely mouthwatering. Goals, goals, goals.

This almost certainly means Wickham is off though surely? As long as we get a fair price then its understandable, and good luck to him.

Still need some creativity to get the ball to these boys though. Bullard anyone?

clive_baker: This almost certainly means Wickham is off though surely?

I think Priskin is more likely to go - down to the last year of his contract, and PJ won't want a repeat of what happened with McAuley / Norris...

Surely Wickham is going then? Unless we play him just behind Chopra and another striker

beds and blueboots i agree 100% i would obviousy rather keep Wickham and i don't really mind that much if Priskin and Scotland go (although personally i do think Scotland has goals in him). Problem will be finding a buyer for them.

Great to see Chops on board, Evans looks set to come on board too.

Want a prediction? I reckon Wickham is off to Liverpool for £10 - £12million and an agreement for a loan player or 2 coming the other way. Some of the funds will go towards an improved offer for Sharp and Coppinger, both of whom will be Town players very soon.

Well after at least 4 years of waiting we finally have our 20+ goals per season man. It would be ironic if we couldn't get the defence sorted.

Let's hope that Ingimarsson and St Ledger sign before being poached by someone else.

why do people assume that CW will be leaving , just because Town are looking gto get in more than one striker ?

Jewell knows what it takes to get out of this div, and for far too long Town have had barely enough decent strike power to achieve that. Make the assumption that SCOTLAND will be the striker likely to leave, not the crown in the jewel, Wickham!!

At this particular stage, the possibilities opened up of capital plus talented loan players by Wickham's departure to what is a different universe in terms of signing fees and salaries are poobably more important than his staying, given finite resources.
It might even open up the possibility of a temporary imbalance in accounting by paying over-the-odds salaries to one or two players for the season. Bullard might be the key in many areas...goal creation....keeping Chopra's excesses onside...releasing defenders to defend.
It really looks interesting with some very good young players in the squad.

I suspect Connor has already told the club that he wants to go to Liverpool.

If we sign a decent striker over 6 foot tall we will all know for sure.

How tall is Ched Evans by the way?

The club do not have to sell Wickham and have tried to keep him by the new contract only a silly bid would tempted the club and £8 mill is not silly enough

by buying Chopra and selling Wickham is one step forward and two back

Priskin and Scotland are the ones I would say Jewell is trying to replace and can see them both out on loan before Christmas if not sold to the likes of Peterborough or Watford type sides

Evans forbid! Please don't go down this route. He's light weight, lazy and definitely not what we need.

end of the day - if the sell on clause is meet its out of ipswich hands. Its as simple as that, we just need to try and get as much as we can, if it comes to that.

I belive ched evans would be a greta signing, he is simialir to vaughan (norwich signed) not in style, but was very good when we was younger, the differnce of playing as a striker in a promotion chasing team and a relagation team is massive!

Connor will decide whether he stays or goes. At his level player power is everything.

If he has made up his mind it is just a case of getting the best deal for the club.

Personally I want to see a CW/MC strikeforce but I fear it will never happen.

How much would it take to bring whittingham here too?

I still don't understand the continued fascination with Bullard. He is expenseive and injury prone and therefore too light-weight for this league. He has only played about 80 games in the last 5 years - we can't afford that sort of return.

Evans is tall and although he hasnt set the world on fire with the Blades , i do feel that he could do well with us especially if we get out of that 4-5-1 hoof rubbish. Evans did show a lot of potential early on in his career which doesnt always mean that a player will be any good, but he has been part of a club in severe decline for some time plus we have been missing forwards that are hungry, won't get bundled off the ball and are willing to go just that bit further, in Jewells words kick your granny.

We can release Jason and Tamas but with 10 and 4 league goals last season respectively they've hardly put themselves in the shop window. Jason clearly wants to stay and battle for a place but not sure about TP. They've not been linked with any transfer rumours; can see them off on loan like Lisbie. Two up front next season at home Mr Jewell and let's get Portman Rd rocking, COYB!!!
