Loach Would Love Town Return
Loach Would Love Town Return
Thursday, 16th Jun 2011 09:30

Watford keeper Scott Loach says it would be a dream to play for Town one day. The 23-year-old was a schoolboy with the Blues academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family moved back to Nottingham where he had been born.

Asked on Twitter whether he’d consider a move back, the England U21 international responded: “Boyhood team, would be a dream to play there one day. So that's all I can say.”

While the 6ft 1in tall glovesman, whose early days with Town can be seen in a short film here, was probably making a more general point rather than issuing an immediate come and get me plea, he could well be amongst the keepers targeted by the Blues if, as expected, Márton Fülöp moves on this summer, Turkish side Bursaspor having made their interest known.

Later, Loach clarified his comment: "Guys, let's clear this up. [I] only said I'd like to play for a team I support one day. Just like I'm sure anyone would."

Loach, who moved to Suffolk with his family as a four-year-old, is contracted to the Hornets until 2013, having become established as their number one after loan spells at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford earlier in his career.

Elsewhere, former Town defender Alex Bruce is set to swap international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland. Bruce’s two full caps came in friendlies so he is entitled to make the switch with a FIFA ruling in 2007 giving players who qualify for either nation the choice on who they represent.

Bruce's Irish grandmother is the basis for his qualification for both countries having been born in Bangor, County Down in Northern Ireland.

Yeah a quality keeper. Only thing is so far Watford have rejected offers for Danny Graham (although they did eventually agree a fee) and rejected Cardiff's approach for Malky Mcckay so they're not going to be bullied in to selling him.

His kicking was better at the age of 8, than ALB's or Flip Flop's is now

Sign him up.

If we make a bid sounds like he would hand in a transfer request to push the transfer through.

Very good keeper would be a great signing .Dont believe any of the keepers Keane signed were any better than what we had in Wright . Especially before Keane took over and completely shot everyones confidence .

A traffic cone would be a better option than the keepers we have at the moment.

Completely agree re Keano / Wright, he had a good season (player of the year I think), and then fell to pieces under Keano.

Dont think an ITFC player has won player of the season since Keano took over.

Quality video, thanks Sindre94.

we should move mountains to sign him. Good keeper, loves the club (we have precious few players like that) and we need a top notch goalie. Future captain.

As stated, I can't see them selling him, but would be a good steal.

Strange quote! I dont see him coming here, but saying 'thats all I can say' is a bit of a teaser.

Would expect more talk of being happy at Watford.

Further Scott Loach Tweets:

'Fixtures out tomoz. So who's does everyone want first game of the season? Forest away 4 me'

'Guys let's clear this up. Only said I'd like to play 4 a team I support one day. Just like I'm sure anyone would'.

Sadly just a rumour I think.

He is a very good keeper and still only 23. He would cost a pretty penny though. £1-2mil bracket.

If we did splash out on Scott than I believe he could be our No1 for the next 8-10 years. He is an Ipswich man and it would be money well spent IMO. But Watford have no need to sell and after loosing Graham they certainly wont be looking to loose any more important first team players. Also Jewell wont be dragged into a transfer fight and will look at more realistic targets.

Joe Murphy is also a good goal keeper and available on a free from Scunthorpe.
Davis Forde of Millwall had a fine season and would be another good choice for about 500k mark.

He has already made moves to distance himself from these remarks. May have a bit of explaining to do when he gets back to Watford. Nothing in this story at all.

Completely agree Bergholtblue. A complete non-story.

He's a good goalkeeper and one day maybe he will come to PR. But for the moment he's out of our price range for a GK. End of.

Give up on the Richard Wright thing! Roy did not make him a bad keeper, He was always a good shotstopper who flapped a lot ( not unlike ALB ). When he was here first time his confidence was high and commanded his area. When he returned he was a little chastened by his experiences and had low confidence. His ability is sufficient to be acceptable in a Championship team but that applies to most of the keepers available on free transfer. If we can get good money for Fulop who is also in that mould, I think we should grab it.
