Town Face Bristol City Trip on Opening Day
Town Face Bristol City Trip on Opening Day
Friday, 17th Jun 2011 09:00

Town will start their 2011/12 campaign with a trip to Bristol City on Saturday 6th August. After their midweek Carling Cup tie at home to Northampton, Hull City will be the first Championship visitors to Portman Road the following weekend.

August continues with a third home game in a week with newly-promoted Southampton in Suffolk on Tuesday 16th August, before the month concludes with rare weekend trip to Peterborough, the Carling Cup second round and Leeds at Portman Road.

September sees fixtures with Blackpool (A), Coventry (H), in the Carling Cup if the Blues are still involved, Middlesbrough (A) and West Ham (A) on Tuesday 27th September.

Boxing Day sees Town off to Leicester and Reading on New Year’s Eve, with Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Monday 2nd January. The FA Cup third round is on the following Saturday.

As for Easter, the Blues are in Derby on Saturday 7th April, while Town are at home to Leicester on the Monday.

After those fixtures, the Blues end the season with games against Crystal Palace (A), Birmingham (H), Millwall (H) and finally Doncaster (A).

Annoying midweek away trips include Burnley on Tuesday 29th November, Southampton on Tuesday 6th March and Birmingham on Tuesday 1st November.

The full list of Town’s fixtures can be seen on TWTD here.

I was thinking of ones which were a long way away really, rather than just midweek away games. Think West Ham in September is OK actually.

Phil. For some of us all the games are a long way away !! but agree West Ham is a nice midweek game, should be a bucket full of atmosphere and home in time for Kebabs and a cold beer !!

FFS just HOW out of date are the EADT !! They state Danny Haynes now plays for Bristol City. They really are a second rate local rag

No disrespect to them, but quite fancy opening day of the season away to Bristol. There were rumours circulating on this site that we were going to be facing Watford aka our nemesis bogey team!

Infineteregress it would be even better if we had Maynard to go there with!

I know its been a long time since we played Norwich on Boxing Day and Easter. But it seems that Leicester have been placed in that spot as we place them 26th Dec and the Easter Monday.

Does that mean that they are our new rivals. I do remember some way back that "We all follow the Ipswich over Land and Sea and Leicester" used to be the song until somewhat inevitably it became Norwich.

But as I say that was a long time ago and I'm rather old.

We should start the season with optimism, its going to be a long hard season but its important we hit the ground running, I´d take a start like last term when we won at much fancied Middelsbourogh.

COYB no matter who stands in our way we should be looking for 3 points for every game!

Strange Christmas and New Year fixtures. No home game between Sat Dec 17th and Jan 2nd, i.e no Christmas home fixture - maybe the league have had the foresight to realise that a home game on Boxing Day would be postponed anyway due to a 10 yard stretch of frozen pitch!

Away First Game, Away Last Game, Away Boxing Day, Away New Years Day.

Doesnt seem quite fair to me!!
