Ellington Set to Sign
Ellington Set to Sign

Released Watford striker Nathan Ellington is set to become Town’s third signing of the summer, as predicted by TWTD on Saturday, with the 29-year-old back at the club today. Last Monday, TWTD reported that Ellington was believed to be the player who had been at the club holding talks with manager Paul Jewell with the story eventually picked up elsewhere as the week wore on.

Ellington, who played for Jewell at Wigan, finished last season on loan at Preston, where he scored two goals in seven starts and 11 sub appearances.

The relegated Lilywhites were understood to be keen to sign him on a permanent basis, however, the Bradford-born frontman ruled out a return to the Lancastrians in a tweet over the weekend: “Won't be going back to Deepdale, I'm afraid. Things were bit complicated for the club which meant it couldn't happen.”

The 5ft 10in tall striker started his career with Walton and Hersham before moving on to Bristol Rovers. Jewell took him to Wigan for £1.2 million in March 2002 where he scored 67 goals in 139 starts and seven sub appearances largely playing alongside Jason Roberts, before moving on to West Brom for £3 million fee in August 2005.

Since signing for Watford for £3.25 million in August 2007, the Bradford-born striker has spent time on loan at Derby County, during Jewell’s spell there as manager, and in Greece with Skoda Xanthi.

Elsewhere, Tranmere sources continue to report that 21-year-old left-back Aaron Cresswell’s move to the Blues is a done deal. Cresswell, who TWTD first mentioned in connection with a switch to Portman Road in early May, is out of contract but the Prenton Park club are entitled to compensation because he is under 24 years of age.

Meanwhile, ex-Blues striker Dean Bowditch has joined the MK Dons on a two-year deal having left Yeovil at the end of the season.

A striker with pace.

Can see him being a 'super sub' coming off the bench and scoring / setting up the winning goal. Using his speed against tired legs.

Whilst i know youtube clips arent the best thing to go by (take sam parkin for example) what struck me about ellington in the clips someone put on here last week, is that hes not afraid to take people on and have a dig from outside the box! Think given pre-season with hopefully a couple of goals under his belt, he could be a great foil for chopra or back up for wickham!

Must be waiting until after the tribunal before announcing cresswell but also another decent player.. Things are looking good... Wonder if we will sign haroun, st ledger or tracey?!

More pleased with what seems to be the signing of Cresswell.

Let's see if Ellington to recapture his form before we get too excited.

Well done Deano, of all our ex-players I think Bowditch is the one I'd really like to see do well.
Not impresed with Ellington but I'll give him a chance first before complaining too much

Basically walks up to the spot and send the keeper the wrong way before dispatching it into the back of the net....However, never saw him do that for Watford so maybe his bottle has gone!

Mind you BL you will still have your eyes closed as penalties are tense.

Ellington and pace are not 2 words you would use in the same sentence, he had it once but now is just another journeyman looking for a decent payday, and he has found another mug in ITFC, what fools we are, should have stayed well clear.
