Town Target Slovenian Defender Tuesday, 2nd Aug 2011 23:37
Town are understood to be hoping to sign Slovenian U21 international right-sided defender Aljaž Struna before this weekend’s season opener at Bristol City. The 20-year-old is believed to have been in England to hold talks with the Blues in the last few days.
Struna, who is rated around the £400,000 mark, is currently with FC Koper in his home country, a club with the rather unfortunate nickname of the Canaries, where he plays alongside former Blue Amir Karic. He has another year left on his contract.
The 6ft tall Piran-born player, who can operate at right-back, right centre-half and right midfield, made four appearances for his nation in qualifying for the UEFA European U21 Championships.
Struna, who previously won caps at U19 level and turns 21 on Thursday, has also appeared in the Champions League with his current side, losing a second round qualifying tie 5-1 to Dinamo Zagreb last season.
Speaking earlier today, chief executive Simon Clegg revealed the Blues were looking to add another player to the squad this week in addition to the season-long loan of Blackburn’s Keith Andrews.

6 Ft Sounds good and for 400K he is versitile 5-1 dont sound great though lol but thats only 1 game... glad we are looking outside the UK and he sounds promising at 20. COYB!
Would be good to see a sucessful 'scouting' signing! Nice to have some youth and if he turns out to be a promising as Cresswell appears to be (early days accepted) - happy days.
Pleased with this kind of signing and delighted with real defensive midfielder as well, but maybe still one dependable, commanding central defender short of a really good championship side. That said, far more balanced a squad than we've had for years.
Bl**dy Hell this boys looks quick. Having watched this youtube segment, it looks like he can play anywhere on the pitch. Must say some of the oppostion looked pants, but theres no denying the boys looks quick on his feet. He evens scores goals, how good is that?
Totally agree with that. He looks excellent on those clips. Quick feet, good crosses, very aware and some lovely through balls. If we can get someone who looks that good for 400k we should go back to that league for more players!
