Bullard's Hull Contract Terminated
Bullard's Hull Contract Terminated
Thursday, 18th Aug 2011 12:58

Hull City have announced the termination of former Town loanee Jimmy Bullard’s contract in the wake of his suspension for an alleged indiscretion which took place during the Tigers’ pre-season trip to Slovenia. The 32-year-old, the Blues’ Player of the Year during a hugely successful loan spell last season, has not played for the club he joined from Fulham for £5 million in 2009 this season.

Hull chief executive Mark Maguire said in a statement that Bullard’s £45,000-a-week contract, which had two years left to run and made up 21% of the Tigers’ wage bill, is to be terminated: “I can confirm that the club has given notice to terminate the contract of Jimmy Bullard.

“Mr Bullard has a right of appeal and it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time that might prejudice this process.

“The club will continue to focus on the development and performance of the squad going forward and is concentrated on efforts to deliver a positive season on and off the pitch for the Tigers.

“We respect that there will be significant interest in this matter but will continue to act with professionalism and at all times in the best interests of the club.”

It's understood the termination means Bullard will receive nothing of what remains on his contract, the move effectively constituting his sacking by the Tigers.

While the Blues were interested in signing the midfielder earlier in the summer, boss Paul Jewell has said on a number of occasions that the deal would be beyond Town's finances, although whether this would still be the case now that Bullard's situation has changed remains to be seen.

However, QPR are also understood to be strongly interested in signing the former Peterborough and Wigan man and would appear to be the favourites for his signature, unless the takeover which was announced earlier today has led to them look elsewhere for midfield additions.

I will happily take the afternoon off and go and pick him up! The guy is a game changer and look how many corners we had on Tuesday. Wouldnt it have been great if some of them had been whipped in towards an attackers head rather than floated up in the air?!

we all know he has a very positive influence on the dressing room; if we're struggling for moral and confidence at home, stick the captains armband on that man and I guarantee we'll be winning in no time!! However I still can't see us being able to get him, especially as QPR are still very interested and are in the prem, would be an absolute dream to have him back but I'm not massively hopeful...

He's bound to appeal. There isn't a club in the land that will compensate him for the loss of a contract worth £4.5 million.

Sounds like Mr Bullard has a choice - take the money or play for us. Did he really mean what he said about Ipswich? I for one would like to see him back - but only if the contract suited PJ's budget and future plans.

jimmy is not a trouble maker.. PJ can handle big characters like jimmy, where as pearson from hull can not and that is coming from hull fans. Wouldlove jimmy back here but we need to fill other positions in the side more urgently in my opinion.

Hull have been looking to get rid for a long while. They have sensibly used this "incident" (whatever it was) as a reason for terminating the contract. Bullard will bring a claim against them for wrongful dismissal, and they will settle the claim out of court/tribunal for a lot less than £4.5m. But either way, anything Bullard gets for that will be from Hull - it'll no longer be from a potential suitor as part of a three way deal with Bullard and Hull. That makes him cheaper, which means potentially easier for us (if he really wants to come here), but also cheaper for QPR et al.

Let's see...

Given that Leicester couldn't legally terminate Dennis Wise's contract after he launched an unprovoked attack on a team mate, breaking his jaw, it will be interesting to see the result of Bullard's probable appeal.

Sign him up, look at the statistics on how we do with or without Jimmy. Becomes all too obvious he was the reason we turned things around.

Saying we dont have the finances isn't really true. Jewell was told he will have funds for the summer before Wickham was sold, and then told he has that money to re-invest. Seeing as we have only spent like 3million of it we have enough to get Jimmy in and get a couple of CB's

The only reason we keep getting pipped to players signatures is Jewell's valuations haven't changed since he was last in management, he needs to get with the times. Just look at what we offered for Coppinger.

Apparently he turned up for training 2 hours late on two separate occasions prior to his initial suspension. It was deemed to be in protest of his treatment by Hull and the fact that they would not let him go back on loan to Ipswich. I acquired this information from a scout at Hull City who said he was very frustrated with their intransegence and decided to take the law into his own hands.
