Lavery Exit Looks Certain
Lavery Exit Looks Certain
Friday, 28th Oct 2011 08:56

Striker Caolan Lavery’s time at Town looks to be up after his academy scholarship ended with no agreement regarding his professional contract having been reached. The Northern Ireland U21 international’s agent was due to talk to manager Paul Jewell last Friday but the Blues boss says he’s still waiting for the call.

Jokingly referring to Lavery as “Lord Lucan”, Jewell says there have been no developments: “I spoke to his agent on Thursday [of last week] and he asked me if there was any change in our offer. I said no but that the offer is still there and he said he would let us know on Friday.

“That was last Friday and I haven’t heard from or seen the kid since.”

Canada-born Lavery’s two-year scholarship was extended until his 19th birthday last Saturday after he suffered a serious knee injury in the FA Youth Cup defeat to Peterborough in November.

Last season, academy manager Sammy Morgan dismissed reports linking Lavery with Tottenham Hotspur, while Leicester were understood to be monitoring his progress and other clubs are also likely to have been keeping a watching brief. The Blues are entitled to compensation if the frontman joins another club.

Lavery has netted five goals in seven FA Premier Academy League games for the U18s this season plus a further four for the reserves.

This is a big mistake by Lavery. You dont get paid on potential you have to earn it young man...

Good riddance, this guy has the attitude of a loser, and a lack of confidence in proving himself.

Non league within 3 years.

Bye.

So the club that stood by you while out with a serious injury then offers you pro terms and wait.......................you turn it down! The attitude of young hopefull footballers in todays world is very poor. I wonder what agents are telling these kids???

Who's saying this is Lavery? Maybe his agent is pulling the strings?

Seems a shame that even after a nasty injury he's been stuck by and offered a pro deal only to turn it down.

Once you get the pro deal, you have the opportunity to push on for a first team place, then you can hold a club to ransom on wages (assuming you're doing the business)

We'll see what happens, hope he signs, but i'm sure the club have a structure with these lads being offered their first pro-deals, and likely have to stick by it.

atleast we get some compo for him.

He is currently our best young striker though... seems strange to me!

If he doesn't want to wear the shirt... he can jog on imo

suffolkpoker - I doubt we will get compo if he leaves at the end of the season, as thats when his pro contract would have run out anyway. Surely we would only get compo if we had offered a contract past the end of the season.

Good riddance anyway.

Either he, or his agent, has been reading too much of his own publicity. Great shame. Head down and hard work a la Cresswell, and the money will take care of itself !

When's the academy gonna produce a player that's an important first team player? And not sell them before they've earnt the hair on their balls ala Wickham?

Joke.

When agents are blamed I always think the players hire the agents, so if a player wants to stay at Ipswich and accept a deal surely he should do so.

We can't splash big money on wages for youngsters. Jewell is right that they should be kept hungry and EARN a better contract when they well for the first team.

Worth a punt me thinks, one year pro deal for this kid aint gonna break the bank considering some of the other gambles we have made in recent years that have backfired. The reports on this kid are good and he can only get better. So we pay him a little more than what he is worth now, least the ball will be firmly in his court to impress or he will find himself clubless in a years time and would have to take a massive cut in wage to play non league....I still feel bitter about Keano letting go of Rhodes and a year or so later he is banging in goals for fun, av goal every other game, notching 3 hat tricks in a month ( one for scotland u21 and back to backs for Huddesfield and now if reports are true..Man Utd keeping a close eye on him ).
Feel this one could end up with a simular outcome.....

What one sided twoddle you read on here - the boy is entitled to move to a new job just like anyone else we would all take a better offer if we could its not like PJ is giving any youngsters a go here may as well fold the academy and put it in the pension fund for the first team

well, everyone is clearly getting annoyed that he didn't stay at this club, so you all say he's going to be laying non-league football. find it quite amusing to be honest. clearly, he's going to be a fantastic player, and he's confident in his ability to reach for a premier league club. good luck to the boy!

Coalan: You ain't Connor, let alone Rooney, are you?

You have to work hard and show your worth to get big fat contract...

Cresswell might want to spend his weekend off kicking some sense into the boy's head...and literally kick the boy's agent at the same time...

Errrr the boy's agent not his dad, is he?

I find it strange that kids this age have agents. I know I'm sounding old but when I was his age and needed some guidance from someone regarding money and career move, progress and direction in life I'd sit down with a wise old head who cared for me and wanted the best for me and my future I'd speak with my mother or farther. Dunno but maybe old fashioned. Agents would soon drop ya if you weren't performing. I'm not saying don't move but sit down think and talk to someone who cares instead of someone who treats you like a whore

newboy and taylor15 - good realistic posts - ignore the other tunnelled vision, no hoper comments.
The boy is class - he knows it - and so do others in the game, including his agent - another one who will be our loss and another Clubs gain.
