Derby Midfielder on Jewell's Wish List
Derby Midfielder on Jewell's Wish List

TWTD understands that Derby midfielder Paul Green is amongst Blues boss Paul Jewell’s January targets. Green, who Jewell signed during his spell as manager at Pride Park, is out of contract at the end of the season with Rams boss Nigel Clough admitting that he may accept offers for the Republic of Ireland international.

Pontefract-born Green, 28, started his career with Doncaster Rovers, the current Town manager taking him to Derby on a free transfer in the summer of 2008.

Green is a regular in the Rams side but with no new contract yet agreed, Clough admitted earlier this week that the 5ft 9in tall midfielder could move on during January: “I think we’ll see what happens this month, and see if we get any offers in.

“We certainly won’t be going out looking for offers, and we would love to keep Paul around for the rest of this season.

“But that may be dictated by other clubs and any offer that comes in. We asked him if he wanted to stay last April or May, and that didn’t come across then.”

Green, who has won nine full Irish caps, scoring once, can also operate at full-back in addition to his more regular central midfield role.

As far as I can tell he didn't sign a contract last summer, Derby didn't even give him a squad number until injuries forced them to play him in November. So only a regular for the past 8 games

A decent player who I doubt is aiming to stay at Derby past this season.

Have seen him play for Ireland a few times. He is very, very average. Would be very disappointed if we signed him.

Apparently also interested in Barnet winger Mark Marshall, who I would much rather have here.

Is he defensive or another attacking CM?

Derby season ticket holder tells me he has a tendency to go missing in games. Just what we need then.

never really seen him play but if he's out of contract in the summer then we should be able to get a good deal for him...
Straight swap for Leadboots?

Always a pain when we play against him so worth a punt but only if the price is right.

Seen him play a few times. Average. Perhaps better than some of PJ's other signings.

Didn't he play right-back against us the other day?, if that was the case thought he played really well.

Looked very good at Donny but flattered to deceive at Derby. A move may benefit him and us

agree with omuircheartaigh and irishtm. i've seen him a few times for derby and eire and he's a hod carrier at best. he puts in a shift at least though, unlike some of our lot who seem happy to phone it in at times.
