Boro Ticket Sales Slightly Up
Boro Ticket Sales Slightly Up
Thursday, 9th Feb 2012 10:26

Town have sold just over 17,000 tickets for Saturday’s reduced-price home game against Middlesbrough, slightly up on what would normally be expected despite the current cold snap. The club have cut prices by 25% in what they describe as “a major ticketing trial”.

Ticket office manager John Ford told TWTD: “We’re currently over 17,000 which is higher by several hundred than I would expect at this point in the week for this match.

“There are so many factors which are difficult to fully assess, such as the couple of recent wins, the bitterly cold weather still likely to be with us on Saturday and also for away fans their midweek cup match, but to me it feels like the attendance will be higher than many of the recent matches.”

There is still time to buy tickets at the discounted prices, online from the club website, at the club shops or on 0844 8011 555.

The pre-matchday discount applies today and tomorrow only, with all adult and concession prices increasing by £2.50 and under-16s by £1 on Saturday.

Whilst I do not agree with the pre and matchday difference in price the matchday price is still pretty good.
Gonna be a shed load of fans turning up on the day I reckon.

ITFC trying to make up the shortfall on the number of away supporters by making it cheaper for home supporters.

Give us entertainment, and a promotion push, and attendances will go up, regardless of the match day ticket prices.

If we have sold 17,000 is this on top on season tickets? Wouldn't that take us to near capacity?

if the number of fans doesn't increase by 25% then they will keep the prices as they were.... end of

perhaps TWTD can ascertain whether they count my season ticket as one of the 17,000 tickets sold, if so its nothing to harp on about

What is more interesting to know Phil is how many none season ticket seats have been sold. Can you ask the club to make this clear in anything they put out

When ITFC put on theses deals, they should give season ticket holders say £5 or £10 credit towards their renewal costs for next season only if they attended (or their season ticket was used) the game that the offer was on. Win Win - club encourages season ticket holder attendance and season ticket renewal

Whilst I agree its harsh on those of us who buy season tickets it was our choice and better to put bums on sits than sit in a half empty stadium whilst I am 100% against the management people should rally and support the team and this is the only way to get them in

@nealitfc. You're still paying less for the match than the non-season ticket holder though no? Even with the 25% discount it will be higher surely.

Clear economic explanation to this: The club will reduce tickets by 25% to test out how elastic us fans are to the change (how susceptible we are to change in price). If the number of tickets sold doesn't increase by 25% or more then the club will keep ticket prices as they are because they will receive more revenue that way. In regard to season ticket pricing, due to the price inelastic nature of them if they reduce prices only a few more people will buy, a smaller number than those that wld leave if the prices were kept the same thus giving itfc an incentive to keep prices the same as they wld generate more revenue to keep prices high! Even though this is not what the fans want!

nealitfc, how do you work out that these tickets are so much less than your seasonticket price, unless of course you sit in an expensive area of the ground, my season ticket price still means im paying less for my ticket than anyone who buys ticket for this match. while i dont agree when the club does the 4 people for a tenner promotion i can totally see the point of this trial, which could lead to every1 paying less next season(including us saeson ticket holders). simonsays, idiot. how is it cleggs fault that people havent bought tickets. he caqnt force them. the only criticism id have of this trial is that due to the form of the team(other than last couple of matches), this was doomed to failure, & will prove nothing. this should have been done at a better time when fans may have been tempted to attend a game

The starting figure includes all ST holders as it always does as those seats are in effect already sold, so the figures quoted are not particularly up and even accounting for those who pay on the day a gate of around 20K will probably only represent a very small increase, the weather is playing a part as forecast for Sat is not very good and the team's poor form (last 2 games apart) I'm afraid many fans are just apathetic which is to be expected given the awful season so far.

Re some of the above. The total includes season tickets. And regarding the offer and season ticket prices, the reduced prices are still higher than the season ticket split by 23.

High price are the only reason i dont go very often, if it was 20 english pounds a ticket then one might find ones self frequenting the ground more often, mid week games for sure

I am afraid unlike some on here, people don't think PJ is some sort of god and all is brilliant after two results. The wider picture tells us that PJ has actually lost over HALF the games he has played this season. Nowhere near good enough. Two good results does not make up for the utter rubbish he dished up before. It would seem people are not fooled and rightly so. It will take a run of at least 10 unbeaten games before PJ even starts to make up for the previous 13 months of failure.

Furthermore, according to the late kick off it is actually ME we should be thanking for the recent results after his recent visit to the training ground. Not PJ.

Myself and my son are going and I have to be honnest I have to count the sheckles I do have so it was a factor on going (Great Work Clegg and team) and I want to see us win but more importantly for me the Town are looking hungry again so long as they play like they mean it and "hunt in Packs" throughly worth every penny win or loose COYB!!!!

It's about time the prices were reduced, but I hope this is a genuine attempt to increase attendance and not just a PR (no pun intended) stunt. It's taken 5 years of poor displays and high prices to grind down loyal ITFC support. One cheaper matchday is hardly likely to fix the problem overnight. This is a step in the right direction, but only a very small one. We need reduced prices for a long period to build back some of our lost support.

A new decent manager in December would have doubled attendances by now.
Reduced ticket prices is papering over the cracks and NOT great marketing. Its very short term and so obvious and not exactly fair for the regular season ticket holders.
The lull at PR will only be lifted when Jewell and Clegg go and someone with a modern and youthful football brain comes in and rally's the fans and players.
