New Scout a Summer Target
New Scout a Summer Target
Wednesday, 25th Apr 2012 07:30

Town manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that amongst his summer additions will be a replacement for scout Andy King. The former Everton and England U21 international midfielder departed to become assistant manager at Northampton in December only a month after joining the Blues staff along with Mark Seagraves.

The Blues boss said: “That is ongoing, someone will be coming in for Andy. We want our scouting network to be even wider.”

Jewell, who appointed David Hamilton, who worked with him at Wigan and Derby, in addition to chief scout Steve McCall soon after he joined Town, said in November that bringing in King and Seagraves would give the Blues a network as strong as any club at this level.

“We’ve added two full-time scouts to our network,” he said. “It gives us four full-time scouts, which is as many as any Championship, if not Premier League, team has got, as well as three or four part-time scouts. I think recruitment is everything in football.”

Most underestimated part of a football club.

It's great that Jewell is improving the scouting network after Keane dismantled it and only went for the players he knew from his past. However, we do need to see some fruit from this. Let's hope they have identified some gems from the lower leagues and overseas that we can bring to this club for cheap fees and low wages, who can become the stars of the future and/or be sold for profit one day.

Mark, I'd rather those gems from the lower leagues and overseas go on to become stars of the future and help mould a successful Ipswich team for many years to come rather than being sold on. However as a smaller club we've always been a selling club and understand the business decisions that have to be made.

McCall and company don't seem to have found us many gems yet ! most transfers seem to be initiated by players agents , our overseas scouting seems to have disappeared completely

Bryan Hamilton would make a great scout / coach with his experience at all levels of football

"Hadleighboyblue" - Aaron Cresswell being top of the list as well as Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Andy Drury to name a few as well as youth players such as Byron Lawrence who came from Histon, a scout must have been sent to look at players like him.

We have David Hamilton as a scout?? That explains a lot : he's only used to scouting for Page 3 girls. Let's get Tony Blackburn on board for next season ...

In addition to a scout Jewell needs a guide.

As we have seen scouting not an issue the club and management are how many players have turned us down this year in favour of going elsewhere even the pompey players decided they were better off staying where they are

Nice. The scouting network is exactly what we need to improve.
