Summer Signings and the Season Ahead
Written by itfccymru on Monday, 24th Jun 2013 00:02

Although the majority of transfer dealings have been speculation so far this summer, I am still massively optimistic. We have signed three very good players in Cole Skuse, Jay Tabb and Daryl Murphy and also David McGoldrick is on his way and I think its massively important we keep the crop of players we had last season which created such a team spirit and a willingness to win.

Transfer speculation and a few decent signings

Joel Grant

This lad would be top class. We've been missing a winger like this for a few years, we're always complaining that our strikers never get the service to score the goals we've been lacking since the Darren Bent and Shefki Kuqi days. I believe Grant could be the answer to the problem we've had. Young, hungry and wanting to improve I think he could be a fantastic signing.

David Forde

Top class keeper, I really think it would bring the best out in him and Scott Loach to go head to head for the number one jersey. Would be an experienced head, a valuable addition.

DJ Campbell

I really think we should try get DJ back, although we have Paul Taylor coming back, hopefully Chopra will be off the wage bill by then. He finished as our top scorer over a short loan spell last season so with a full season injury free I really think he can score 15+ goals. Bring him in!

Danny Haynes

Difficult one I know, but could be worth a punt. A free agent but also always a player who could get bums off seats, loved playing for Town and with his pace and tricks, always a massive handful for defences.

Adam Hammill

Could be a long shot, but would be a good signing. Can see Wolves wanting to get him off their wage bill due to relegation and personally don't see why they loaned him out. Impressed while at Huddersfield and always has an eye for goal, an exciting winger who again gets bums off seats and could be a very good player at Championship level, can also see him playing in the number 10 role when needed.

Season ahead

Gem for the season

I believe Anthony Wordsworth can be the hidden gem for this season, settled in now, a freekick expert with an eye for goal, I believe this lad can have an outstanding season with a regular run in the team.

If we get a few new exciting faces in who will only improve the team I believe we could be in for a good season, we are in more then capable hands with Mick and TC and the top seven should be the aim.

We need to get Portman Road absolutely rocking again! Remember when we played Arsenal in the League Cup and how the atmosphere was then? Times are hard money-wise I understand but let's support the boys as much as we can! COYB!

Gus Poyet and Mauriccio,
Wouldn't it be a great move if we were to get these two on board to take the team forward. MM did a fine job saving us from division one but he is so stuck in the British style of football that is becoming obsolete in world terms. The previous two managers nearly destroyed the club [Clegg helped just a bit as well]. I really don't wish MM any ill but it is so long since we played any good football, we've had too many poor signings, ie Chopra, JET {who I think could be good in the right team]. The last player for ITFC who set the place alight was Giovani dos Santos who was obviously a Premiership player. Great to see him in the Mexico team at the Confederates Cup where he was the Mexicans best player. My ideal scenario would be MM taking an International manager's job and Poyet becoming the Town manager.

Let's not get carried away with the myth that Ipswich are some kind of cut price Tottenham. All flare and no trousers.
I'm all for MMs hard working, defensive solidity if we win more games than we lose.
Bobby Robson's sides were teams that played or each other, there were flair players, but not of the Dos Santos or Jimmy Bullard ilk where that one players performance was expected to win the game for us against the run of play.
I'd love Dos Santos to return, but only when we have a team capable of getting back to the prem without him.

My wish list:

GK: Forde
Defence: Broadfoot (cover/competition for Smith and Chambers); Stearman at right back
Midfield: Grant to add some pace to the left wing
Attack: Ebanks-Blake- still young and great goal scoring record at this level, would compliment McGoldrick

Starting line up with signings (4-4-2):

Forde; Stearman, Chambers, Smith, Cresswell; P Taylor, Hyam, Skuse, Tabb; McGoldrick, Ebanks Blake

Subs: Loach, Hewitt, Broadfoot, Edwards, Grant, Wordsworth, Nouble

I would be tempted to start Wordsworth from the off in the centre of midfield to add some much needed creativity and goal threat. However, I believe MM will play two ball winners in Hyam and Skuse to keep us solid and not concede then have Wordworth as a creative option to bring on.

I would love to see Taylor played on the right wing where he can use his dribbling ability and pace from deep.

I agree we got good players in so far. Skuse should be very good for us, we know Tabb and McGlodrick are good, not so keen on Murphy but not disappointed to have him in either. We still miss badly in a few areas though:
1. We MUST have a prolific striker who can score 20+ for us. None of the existing ones have that in him. Taylor may be good but he is not a prolific striker, McGoldrick isn't too, Nouble may get there but for sure not this coming season, Murphy is not too and Chopra was like this but not anymore with his problems putting a dent in his career development... I guess we need one like Ebanks-Blake. He is off till October so may be a bargain - free agent and may lower his wages request based on his current health condition, plus he likes to play for Mick. May be a question mark on his recovery but he has always been great at our level so I expect him to go back to his best soon enough. DJ may be another solution but in any case we need one to start scoring for us.
2. We badly need Stearman or if not possible a capable replacement. Mick transformed the worst defense in the division into one of the toughest for just a couple of months but without a good right back he will not be able to build on what he achieved last season.
3. A good winger and a midfield player who can score (Holland and Magilton type of player) are also still required.
4. A capable back up for the central defenders is another player we need maybe not so urgently but for sure important too.

If Mick get all these we will be sitting prefect next season. And I have always said it is good to have great names in your team but now even if a good passionate and pacey workers will do just fine in this weak Championship.
