Corona, SAGE and transparency 20:54 - Apr 24 with 902 views | Moriarty | Is there a need for greater transparency? In Ireland, it has been observed that the North has a higher death and infection rate than in the South. And, indeed, that of the Southern counties, (outside Dublin) it’s the border counties that have higher rates. This stems directly from the difference in approach between our respective governments. I hope you all stay safe. https://www.msn.com/en-ie/news/coronavirus/the-secretive-group-guiding-the-uk-on

It’s specifically a North and South of Ireland comparison that shows a difference on the island. Density is certainly a relevant factor but not in the context of a North of Ireland v South of Ireland analysis. NZ have really got on top of things and had their first reported case the same day as Ireland. They have very tight migration controls, which is on the menu in Ireland too. Like Ireland, they have a population of just under 5M. Hopefully important lessons have been learned everywhere to avoid a damaging second wave.

And the composition of SAGE is a little less secretive now. We know who one member is: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52421744 [Post edited 25 Apr 2020 5:13]
