Very excited about today.
Yes the warm up games were a damp squib as the strategy of resting the squad meant we played a B Team, and yes our central defence remains a concern
But there are many reasons to be positive, an a out of character first outing strong display today would get the nation buzzing. Albeit Croatia are no mugs (modric is ageing, but perhaps perhaps Philips is needed??)
Points to get excited about:
- Southgate is becoming experienced in tournament and the addition of the Newcastle strengthens his tactical and technical knowledge
- English teams won the champions league, and young players were there to earn the battle scars, Foden, Mount, James
- Rice is a quality player and could be something we’ve been missing
- Kane is a top level goal scorer
- Grealish is a difference engine, he makes things happen, foreign coaches will hate what he does
- Walker, Trippier, Shaw, James, Chilwell… strength in depth, width, super subs
- speaking of super subs - sancho, saka, Calvert-Lewin
