European Roller is in the Mildenhall area which is apparently a rare although not unique occasion. Quite an attractive creature.

Bit of a looker:

Isn't that where orioles are known to go to breed too, Lakenheath way, poplar trees or something?

Pardon my ignorance - if an extremely rare bird is seen in the UK - what’s the protocol on this? Inform the RSPCA and keep quiet about it?

Just interested because wasn’t a rare bird spotted a few years ago and subsequently died of exhausted as the poor thing was being chased around by some people keen to photo it?

Agree there's a big difference between appreciating something and wanting to be part of something for your own satisfaction.

If you can view it from a distance then wonderful, but if that's not possible then stay the hell away.

Unless it tastes nice, then you have a dilemma.

RSBB rather than RSPCA. Not sure of the particular incident you're on about but pretty sure most people into this sort of thing would be pretty discreet in order to get near their targets.
