We are indeed. So many analyses of our performances begin with an assertion that we "played some nice football", but even this compliment fails to acknowledge that defending is also 'playing football'. It is not just about attacking. This isn't some five a side under 9s tournament, this is professional football.

So much chat has focussed on issues like Harper and Evans together, Fraser in the 10 role, whether we have an embarrassment of riches out wide, whether we can play this formation with Bonne and also another striker, who is best suited to bombing on as a fullback.

There's virtually no chat about our defensive frailties and what they have been caused by. This is plainly the most glaring problem with our team. We are defensively fragile, and our defence and GK always have a mistake in them.

Did Cook get rid of the right defenders? Did he bring in the right defenders? Can he coach defensive play? Is he bothered if we effectively play a 2-8-1 formation?

I've never seen such a poor Town side defensively, in any division, let alone league 1. Our opponents' goals to chances stats must be through the roof...

It’s not about who he got rid of, but who he brought in, not least the abject goalkeeper.

I always thought a good experienced Centre Half was a must. A De Vos or Mowbray figure. This is a garbage league full of rubbish teams. It surely isn’t beyond wit of man to put together a defence worthy of the name and a team that has the guts and wherewithal to be competitive.
