Had plenty of time on the way back from that debacle yesterday, that my mate and I were talking about how our seasons always seem to unravel when it gets to FA Cup time. As far back as the playoff season, we looked at ppg before and after the first FA Cup game of that season (Season - pre FA Cup ppg - post FA Cup ppg):
14/15 - 1.96 > 1.4
15/16 - 1.64 > 1.3
16/17 - 1.24 > 1.14
17/18 - 1.38 > 1.2
18/19 - 0.58 < 0.8
19/20 - 2.2 > 0.9
20/21 - 2 > 1.34
21/22 - 1.44 > 0.83
So with the exception of the relegation year, every season we have gotten worse after entering the FA Cup. Moral of the story, just don't bother entering it from now on.
NB: holy smokes did we capitulate in 19/20!! Also, if any maths is wrong, it was late, we were bored and very disgruntled, but I think the general gist is there to see. [Post edited 16 Dec 2021 11:14]
