Huge 3 points, huge performance - match thoughts 15:10 - Dec 10 with 606 viewsunstableblue

Winning today was very important. It puts us temporarily top and the pressure on our rivals. But critically it puts to bed the Fleetwood last minute goal, and showed we can weather a late push and pressure.

It’s a huge a 3 points. At a time when we are a little short of key players. And where we’d created some pressure on ourselves, despite still being top of the 6 game form guide.

Also Posh arrived well supported, with a strong team, and a point to prove having been berated by their chairman, and experiencing form not worthy of a relegated championship side who’ve kept many of their best players.

I really feared their goal was going to be a pivot point for their season, but Town stayed solid.

This was a first half where the players didn’t fire up the fans and the fans didn’t fire up the players. On a bitterly cold lunchtime kick-off. This is a proper cold snap. But the surface held up well, sort from the line in front of the Pinoeer leading up to the North. Which is getting shredded.

Town did managed 3 x spells of very good football and pressure. And this won us the game. Overall our energy seemed lacking, we were being forced to sit deep and Wolfenden was at times stationary wondering what to do.

But Aluko, Burns and Chaplin fire up for moments. With Aluko coming close to MoTM. Burns finally had a brilliant run down the wing, second half, skinning two men and leading to Chaplins second. We need more of this. Chaplins return to form has been perfectly timed.

MOTM for me was Jackson. This was an inspired selection from McKenna, but the plan stuttered in the first half. But after clearly a rollicking and some technical tweaks, the second half supply to Jackson’s stepped up a gear, and Posh starting to fall apart by his high collection of ball in the channels. Leading to pressure, corners and joy.

The ref was really woeful, as usual. Missing a penalty on Jackson, and general rugby tackles on our strikers at set pieces. And dishing out soft yellows to our players. Morsy for dissent. How close is our captain to a suspension? That’s going to be a loss.

A few other mentions - Humphreys was a little quieter sitting in a deeper position on our right side. But still managed 3/4 superb crosses/passes.

Burgess just owns his place now, so important to us.

Our number 1 is still not fully back to form, but I think the low sun in his eyes really hampered him on the goal.

But overall a very positive result, perhaps not a brilliant performance, but posh had good players, and critically we kept them at bay, despite a series of corners and free kicks.

Oh and Leif Davis, despite being only 6/10 today is an absolute baller!

Come on you blues! And Exeter and Cambridge!
