Driving to matches vs public transport 13:31 - Jan 30 with 860 views | HemBlue | I currently catch the 116 bus into town on match days. The service is generally good and carries a good number of town fans. The problem is that a few years back the last bus back after the game was changed from 5.30 to 5.15. This wasn’t too bad until the 5 subs rule was introduced, lengthening the game. Now fans are left with the choice of leaving the ground early or potentially missing the last bus home from the Cattle Market. To make matters worse the bus didn’t turn up on Saturday to take me to the match. Luckily my wife was able to drive me in but I did miss my first pint in the Plough! With Green Week coming up, the ITFC website is highlighting the need for supporters to ‘think about more substainable ways to travel to matches for the benefit of everyone in our hometown’. Maybe ITFC should speak to the bus companies. Are you put off using public transport on match days because of similar issues?
Driving to matches vs public transport on 14:16 - Jan 30 with 801 views | earlsgreenblue | Can see your dilemma, I’ve just started using the rail link from Stowmarket to Ipswich on match day & if buying for 3 x persons or more it is very cheap at approx £2 pp each way, BUT, I would say sometimes the train is dangerous & overcrowded with standing room only on the way to ITFC, the return can also mean a lengthy wait on the platform which when crowded with both home & away fans getting the same train can also be daunting & a tad dangerous! Not rocket science for public transport providers & the club to get together & reduce the stress for passengers, but I think the providers purely suit themselves & customers are never first in that industry!

If you use the London trains from Stowmarket, there should be plenty of room: most of them are 9 or 12 carriages. Different matter, I'd agree, if you use the 2-3 carriage Cambridge-Ipswich trains.

Driving to matches vs public transport on 18:42 - Jan 30 with 630 views | DJR | As I live in Kent, I would always take the train if I could but strikes, and more often engineering works, make things more complicated. When there are engineering works, I do often have the option of driving to Shenfield, which at least allows train travel for over half the journey. Incidentally, it impossible to get back to Kent after a midweek game, so the train to Shenfield at least breaks the monotony of night-time travel. [Post edited 30 Jan 2023 18:45]
