It’s nice to have something to play for at the end of a season 17:42 - Apr 11 with 348 viewsMiaow

Yesterday’s result was very disappointing. Our run couldn’t go on forever but to drop two points and fall short of equalling that record by conceding such a poor goal so late on really was galling. Watching on iFollow, I honestly didn’t see us letting one in after we had scored and I thought we had it in us to see it out, but at least it wasn’t an even later goal such as Plymouth or Fleetwood or... Charlton... I would love it so much if we could come out on the right side of some late goals before the end of the season, preferably winners (for us). We’re certainly due one.

That we could end up with 90-something points and still not go up doesn’t bear thinking about, but I think we are still in a great place. If Plymouth go to Exeter and get three points on Saturday lunchtime then that’ll be a superb result for them and they’ll put themselves in a good position, but I can see them having a very tough game. And Wednesday at Burton(?) is also another one we can have our fingers crossed for. We really should be getting six points out of six over the next seven days to giveback ourselves a shout of the top two and go into the two games against Peterborough and Barnsley in a good spot.

Before our amazing run, I was downbeat and thinking we would be really struggling to get up this year but, even if we don’t get automatic promotion, I can see us getting to Wembley. Even if it isn’t good for our nerves, to have so much at stake so late in the season is a welcome change to what we’ve had for many of the seasons over the past 15 years or so. And, even if we didn’t make it nine wins in a row, I think we will surely break our record for most points in a season and hopefully will also set a record for fewest defeats in a League season, which I think was five under Bill McGarry. I’m not sure about our best-ever goal difference but we must be close to it.
