Any student finance experts out there. 18:20 - Apr 21 with 585 views | BanksterDebtSlave | Junior applied for a 'higher maintenance loan' and has been awarded about 2k above the £9,750 supposed maximum. Is this extra bit a grant because of our income that doesn't have to be repaid. If it is and I have read the .gov website correctly do the subtract some money from the loan element because of the grant element. "Maintenance Loan entitlement if you get a Maintenance Grant If you apply for a Maintenance Grant, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan. However, if you’re eligible for a Maintenance Loan, the maximum amount may be reduced by £0.50 for every £1 of Maintenance Grant you get." ....why does it say "may be ....." Thanks for any help.

The maintenance loan offered a higher amount which I’ve claimed to cover her housing costs fully. Didn’t get the choice last year or with nr 1 son but expecting an e mail about it any time.

This will be her first year all being well but when she applied online you could go for a maintenance loan or a higher maintenance loan so we kinda guessed and went higher. The helpful letter that has just arrived says the maximum loan is £9k something and your payment will be £11k something. It doesn’t however break it down into loan and grant elements if indeed that is what it is. Bloody grown up stuff, bah humbug.
