We would undoubtedly end up with a Parliamentary republic, where the head of state is a figurehead. In most countries which have such a system, the head of state is voted for by the legislature, sometimes with a two-thirds majority. A two-thirds majority would ensure we didn't end up with a President Johnson, instead electing a more consensual figure much in the way the Speaker is appointed. |  | |  |
