I have been watching a few of his old films recently and love the gritty hard man stuff like Nil By Mouth and Ladybird Ladybird. Last night I watched The War Zone, and bloody hell, that was powerful, yet difficult watching. I actually felt quite sick watching some of the scenes, so I can only assume it was psychologically tough for RW and the other actors to film.
If you haven't seen it, I would advise you Google it, before deciding to watch.
The worst trouble I have seen in Ipswich was sometime in the early 80s. If memory serves me right, Arsenal had played a game in Europe midweek and a lot of their fans arrived in Harwich or Felixtowe before the league game at Portman Rd.
There was huge numbers of gooners and trouble broke out in the North Stand and spilled on to the pitch. Then after the game a huge mob ran amok in town, fighting the few brave Ipswich lads who were definitely game. I was a skinny teenager at the time and it was the first large scale football violence I had witnessed. My memory has faded over the years, and so it might not have been as bad as I remember. It's funny what sticks in one's mind. The most vivid memory is of a punk, complete with huge mohawk, being escorted around the pitch and past us in Churchman's.
Post 9.11, over 4 times as many US servicemen died from suicide as were killed in combat. Many more will be living with debilitating mental health issues.
Yes it's a huge amount of money, when you see it written down in isolation. However, the sad reality is, it's not nearly enough to buy a squad of players capable of competing in the PL in 2025. That was the task facing the club at the start of the season. This season, and last, are clear proof that a PL ready squad costs much more.
We can criticise individual performances and KM's tactics, but using the 140 million as a stick to beat the club with, is failing to put it into context. The money in the PL is obscene and sadly 140 million is peanuts.
