Rishi Sunak will be seen by history as an irresponsible w**ker. 20:41 - Jul 24 with 3897 views | NthQldITFC | https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jul/24/rishi-sunak-suggests-delay-or-a The prime minister said the drive to reach the UK’s net zero targets should not “unnecessarily give people more hassle and more costs in their lives” as he rethinks his green agenda after last week’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip byelection. To undermine our children's futures in a futile attempt to garner a few votes for a dying political party is the action of an utterly contemptible sh!t.

Rishi Sunak will be seen by history as an irresponsible w**ker. on 13:56 - Jul 25 by SuperKieranMcKenna | Just wanted to highlight the leniency given by some to Norway because they like the political ideology. As for heat pumps that’s just one facet. Norway has a higher per head CO2 than the UK, and is fourth worst in the world when you include their oil and gas exports. |
I certainly would prefer our country to be more like Norway and the Nordic countries when it comes to equality (and indeed wealth and growth), but the UK has given up on the social democracy that was the norm before 1979, and is the norm now in those countries. https://theconversation.com/what-the-world-can-learn-about-equality-from-the-nor As regards per capita CO2 etc, of course that's going to be the case because they have energy resources probably not dissimilar to those the UK once had, but their population is about 12 times less. In any event, what matters not is where countries start from but rather where they are going, and in those terms Norway are far ahead of the game, compared to the UK. [Post edited 25 Jul 2023 14:47]

“Butt even on those terms, what matters not is where countries start from but rather where they are going, and in those terms Norway are far ahead of the game, compared to the UK.” Except even if you disregard their fossil fuel exports, Norways CO2 output per capita is significantly higher than the UK, so to say they are ahead of the game simply isn’t true. As regards to future promises I’ll guess we’ll see. Certainly selling rights for exploration and drilling of Artic reserves suggests they are merely paying lip service.

Sorry, I slightly edited my post before you responded because of the very point you raised. Anyway, an interesting discussion. [Post edited 25 Jul 2023 15:01]
