Nod to the first black PL referee in 15 years 08:01 - Dec 15 with 745 viewsibbleobble

Sam has actually played the game too. I played with him for a period when he left Swindon many years ago. Great to see his rise to the top. Wishing him all the best and great to see ex-players making the step in this direction, it’s what the game needs - not VAR.

Outrageous that it's taken that long.

Hope all goes good for him πŸ‘

It's weird in that in a sport that is now increasingly being played by strong numbers of people of black/African heritage or nationality they are not becoming officials or managers in anywhere the same numbers.

We'll have an all black England team in the next decade or so, unfortunately probably with Harry Maguire as manager, but still, its going to happen, especially as the demographics of the country start to radically change with the new generations coming forward. Who's going to ref those games and manage those teams if these people aren't being embraced in those parts of the game? We'll have nothing!
