Keeping it to albums only and not individual tracks, who has caught your ear this year?

Be good to hear what medium you choose too.

I only purchase vinyl, but listen to streamed music most days, so not sniffy about it. I've always just preferred vinyl.

For me in no particular order:

Gaz Coombes - Turn the car around
A Certain Ratio - 1982
Noel Gallagher - Council skies
White Label - Other Voices
Matt Deighton - Today Become Forever
Say She She - Silver

My favourite reissue of the the year was Who's Next by The Who. I got the 4LP version featuring a live gig from 71. Sublime.

Looking forward?

The upcoming LP by English Teacher.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Council Skies is very good.

The big one for me was Hackney Diamonds. Stones on top from which is remarkable in 2023.

also looking forward to english teacher, excellent singles so far (bizarrely "nearly daffodils" made time magazine's 7th best of the year, which seems odd for a little indie band from leeds!)

albums-wise this year:-

young fathers-heavy heavy
the national-first 2 pages of frankenstein
sampha-lahai
slowdive-everything is alive
sufjan stevens-javelin

and loads more!

Poll: do you do judo and/or do you do voodoo?

In no particular order, but it has been a great year for music in my opinion:

Mitski - The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We
Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
Black Country, New Road - Live at Bush Hall
Lincoln - Everything is Wrong
Mat Kerekes - You Look Like A Stranger
Citizen - Calling The Dogs
The Front Bottoms - You Are Who You Hang Out With
Movements - Ruckus!
Hot Mulligan - Why Would I Watch?
Runnner - like dying stars, we’re reaching out
boygenius - The Record

A lot of emo/pop punk in the above - if I had to recommend 3 of the above it would be the BCNR, Mitski and Runnner albums

The Murder Capital - Gigi’s Recovery

Their latest song ‘Heart in the Hole’ is so good too.
