Statistical comparison with last 2 Premier League seasons 09:36 - Aug 7 with 11855 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Cut-and-pasted from the end of my last Championship thread so I can add a reply with the first two par results ... In preparation for a new thread for next season now that the teams are all known: 2000/01 Leeds - replaced by Brighton Sunderland - Bournemouth Charlton - Palace Middlesbrough - Wolves Derby - Fulham Coventry - Brentford Bradford - Forest 2001/02 Leeds - replaced by Man City Blackburn - Brighton Middlesbrough - Bournemouth Charlton - Palace Bolton - Wolves Sunderland - Brentford Derby - Forest Quite remarkable to think that the last time we played Man City in the Premier League, they got relegated. The last two times we played Leeds in it, they finished 4th and then 5th. Much has stayed the same about it but much has changed too. I will relaunch this as a new thread after the fixtures come out.

Falling behind the rate now and yet we are still level with safety. A sign that the bottom of the league is worse than it was in 2001/02? Or that there is a greater disparity now than there was then?

2000/01 Pts -27, GF -12, GD -35 Next match Liverpool (A) par score 1-0 win! Loved that Stewart goal. 2001/02 Pts -5, GF +1, GD -9 Next match Liverpool (A) par score 5-0 defeat. Our last Premier League match until this season. That was as humbling an experience as today on a day where we needed a win to stand any outside chance of staying up.

Statistical comparison with last 2 Premier League seasons on 13:13 - Aug 7 by Steve_M | We played ok until half-time, Sixto came really close to equalising late in the half only for Liverpool to go down the other end and make it 0-2 (Heskey I think). We were poor second half, couldn't keep the ball and just got picked off time and time again. Burley got it wrong when Jamma (?) went off injured in the first-half, brought on Armstrong rather than Magilton and we only gained any control when the latter finally came on late in the game - it was 0-5 by then. |
Absolutely as I remember it. Burley tried to chase the game with a 3 man attack when Jamma went off after a nasty challenge by Stephen Wright. Balance was all wrong and we lost any chance of control. Bit like us at the moment with a 2 man midfield.

As depressing as this is, I've started so I'll persist: 2000/01 Pts -35, GF -14, GD -46 Next match Palace replacing Charlton (A) par score 2-1 loss. 2001/02 Pts -7, GF +3, GD -6 Next match Palace replacing Charlton (A) par score 3-2 loss. Interesting to note we have actually scored more than the equivalent matches so far in our relegation season. Let's enjoy the FA Cup break and hope for the miracle after.

Managed to forget this for a couple of matches now so here it is for completeness: After Bournemouth: 2000/01 Pts -35, GF -15, GD -46 Next match Wolves replacing Middlesbrough (H) par score 2-1 win. 2001/02 Pts -8, GF +2, GD -9 Next match Wolves replacing Bolton (H) par score 1-2 defeat. So we have crept closer to the last relegation season but I can't see us making up the rest of that gap which fits with us looking like going down with time to spare.
