The last time we won a League game in front of 50K was against Manchester United 48 years ago

Some team who played that day. Ten of the players who started that day played in the Cup Final two years later. Plus this was the game Paul Mariner made his debut. The week after this result we hammered WBA 7-0 where Trevor Whymark scored four & Mariner scored his first goal for us

I’m sure i read recently that the 1979 game at Barcelona was nothing close to a 100k crowd maybe because of ground work or something.

I believe it was this the 1977 game that had the lesser crowd.

Videos from the 1977 the ground capicity looks bare. Where us the 1979 game looks full

I read in El Mundo Deportivo a few years back that the highest attendance for their pre-season Gamper tournament was in 1981when we played Cologne and Barça played Vasco de Gama immedately afterwards. The figure was about 102000. Only a pre-season friendly though, and we lost.

This was a tournament where two games were played in on the same day. The winners from those two games played each other the following day. & the teams who lost the previous day played for third or fourth. It says we had 80,000 when we played against Vasco. But Ive read that the crowd only really arrived as our game was closing to a finish so to watch the final between Barca & Cologne. But I am only going by the one report mind

Semi finals
Barcelona 1 - 0 Vasco Da Grama
Cologne 2 - 0 Ipswich Town 0 https://www.prideofanglia.com/page.php?page=matchReport&level=1&day=17&a

Final
Colonge 4 - 0 Barcelona 0

battle for third place
Vasco Da Gama 2 - 1 Ipswich Town https://www.prideofanglia.com/page.php?page=matchReport&level=1&day=18&a

The FA cup tie against Manchester United in 1958 was the last game the Busby babes played at Old Trafford.

It was indeed. Some amazing footage can be found here of that game in the link below. Bobby Charlton didn't half hit that first goal

On and another sad note my late father (who was a Aresnal fan) was at Highbury the following week just days before the crash

Manchester United won the game & beat Arsenal 5-4.

He threw all his Arsenal programmes away eventually, but he kept that one.
