From that day only Hladky and El Mizouni are playing at a higher level than they were that day of the players who are no longer with us.
Of course we are more likely to have released players not up to it than up to it but it's mad how many of those players have not even stayed at League One (3) but dropped to League Two (4) or the Conference (5).
Given some of those were recruited by Ashton, who has got it incredibly right more often than not since, again most of that likely backed by McKenna who came in later, it seems incredible that so few players from what was supposed to be Top League 1 side haven't even been able to stay at that level.
4 players in League One, 4 in League Two and 3 in the Conference in such a short space of time is crazy. Vincent-Young was playing in League One but you'd imagine will end up the division below that, if not the Conference.
I wonder how many of those careers would have been different had McKenna come in at the start of that campaign. It cannot simply be that everyone who came in after him was massively improved and those before have dropped off significantly. |  |
