Top of the range detectors can be over £1000+, but mid range ones can be simpler to use and switch on and go, and cost 3 or 4 hundred. Have a look at C-Scope range as has cheaper end models as well. |  | |  |

I’d recommend something in the Garrett Ace range. Easy to use, but enough features to make sure you’re not just digging up old nails. I’ve been using the Garret Ace 250 in Suffolk for years and have found lots of Roman coins etc. If you don’t want to spend too much, then getting a second hand one would be better than buying a cheap one brand new. It’s a great hobby, so I’m sure the grandkids will love it. |  | |  |
