Thought we did okay tonight on the whole. The shape of the team and how we were playing first half was fine but we lacked any kind of pace or firepower or ability to beat a man, quite dramatically actually. We looked like a lower league side who pass the ball and are well coached. But we defended well generally and actually controlled large parts of it. Second half was much improved and bloody hell, we scored from a corner. Nice of them to leave two of our biggest players unmarked at the back post, thank you very much. Sadly it always felt likely they would find a goal from somewhere in reply. Big credit to our captain. We may be starting to see limitations in his game when it comes to the PL and the pace and issues in transition, but he showed tonight how good he can be for us. He so rarely gets flustered and he keeps possession ticking over so well, at one point second half Palmer was about to bowl it out to him and almost decided it was too risky with a couple of Forest players nearby, Morsy demanded it, turned and started playing again. He's the only midfielder we have who really has the balls to do that in difficult situations. Woolfenden goes into the same bracket as Morsy. Also un-flustered, calm, hoofed it when he needed, made most of his passes. He's really suffered from us wanting to play a flat 4 so often, and O'Shea proving to be a solid player. Frankly I'm surprised we scored four penalties, and who scored some of them surprised me too. They were always likely to have better natural penalty takers, and more of them. So no disgrace tonight, just have to pray we can use it and take some the good things into Saturday. | |
