This week I decided to go through the squads of the 17 teams that have finished above us this season. It revealed that those teams have an average of no less than 14 genuine overseas, ie ‘foreign’ players in their squads. We’ve got three and I didn’t look at Leicester or Southampton but it sums up the situation for teams already established in the Premier League who can collect Sky money and recruit top players year after year and newly promoted sides will always struggle.

Whilst I totally agree, it's not just foreign internationals. Clubs that we vaguely might have thought we could have vaguely kept up with, Everton, Palace, West Ham, all have multiple full England internationals. The fact that we ever thought we could attempt to keep up with them, and also Wolves, with there £45 million Brazilian international amongst others, is almost delusional when you analyse it in that way.

I think it's a process with the foreign recruitment, and one that snowballs. You need the scouting etc, but players won't necessarily just join any old relegation fodder, so you need to prove yourself a bit too. Maybe yo-yoing will help us build a bit more scouting wise as well as being in the public eye so to speak.
