No Smoking Ban 29th May 2001 14:18
The ban on smoking in the upper tier of the South Stand is to be lifted. Up to now smoking has not been allowed in the new tier, but the club is allowing smokers the chance to puff away to their hearts' content during the new season. 1

The pre-smoking ban world seems a long way away.

Obviously today, there's just an inordinate number of people who need a sh1t at half-time.....

I first started going along to PR as a kid in about 1993 / 1994. Bloke a couple of seats along from me used to smoke like a chimney during the game and I remember finding it gross when it wafted in my direction, but that was pretty normal then and just the way it was. I've never had a problem with it at half time etc or in a designated area, that's no different to being out in the street really. I wouldn't have much of an issue with it being allowed in an open concourse like at the Valley or something, even as a non smoker.

I find it hard to imagine people ever smoked inside an office, that blows my mind. Or on a plane. Smoking and non smoking sections in restaurants, how did that even work?

It didn’t really work at all.

Even if the smoking ban was lifted I think most pubs and clubs will still enforce it as most people don’t smoke now and consequently don’t wish to smell like an ashtray at the end of a night out.
