Mrs Zx and I had some electrical work done last week, part of which involved installing an external junction box into which we (I) can hard-wire some festoon lights. All nicely set up for the lay-man - three terminal blocks inside, into which are connected the live, neutral, and earth cables.
Having found a decent source, their lights use the below power lead:

As it's a simple plug-cable-connector setup, should it just be a case of snipping off the plug, cutting the cable to the desired length, and then just exposing and connecting the wires? |  |

Yeah you can, but why not put in an external double socket and then you can use the other socket for whatever... |  |
