While the obvious caveat to my next statement (we hope) is that we win a lot more games next season than we did last, on some level watching games will be less enjoyable now we know Sam Morsy is unlikely to feature in them.
I'd say he's my favourite ever player (regular watcher since 2002), and quite comfortably.
I've never known a player to simply show as much bottle as he does on a football pitch, trusting his ability and strength to get him into good positions and drive the whole team forward, and also get himself out of trouble. Also probably the most "he was everywhere" type player we've had this century.
Yes he's 34, but that's a big big hole to fill both in terms of his standing within the squad and his leadership, and position on the pitch. I think he still would have been one of the best all round midfielders at our level.
Hope it's a good move for him.
