I don’t think a lot of the squad want to be here 09:19 - Aug 13 with 727 views | CopfordBlue | Even if we weren’t their first choice I’d hope the new signings do. The young players like Humphreys and Barbrook are presumably happy to be given an opportunity but I’m not convinced that many of the others really want to be playing Championship football for Ipswich Town. They either joined to play in the Premier League or were part of the squad who got us there and then became squad players in favour of supposedly better players who then didn’t perform at the top level. I’m not complaining or criticising, just calling it as I see it. I wouldn’t blame Woolfy, Broadhead Chaplin etc for being sore with how they were treated after doing so much to bring success to the club and knowing promotion this season would probably mean more of the same. They’ll also be feeling the departure of Morsy and the squad that was built up prior to last season. Szmodics, Ogbene, Greaves, Clarke etc came here to play in the top division and for a Premier League contract. They’re now not playing at that level and presumably their contracts reflect this. This is just guesswork on my part, no real insight other than a few unsubstantiated rumours that most of us hear from time to time but I think KM has a bigger job to do in terms of motivation, creating a team, morale etc than he does on the training field. We badly need a few wins quickly to kickstart this squad and season. A slow start and all the issues are amplified.

Being back in the Championship is the fruit of their labour. Should have played better if they wanted to stay in the Premier League. [Post edited 13 Aug 9:23]

I don’t buy they don’t want to be here, they didn’t really excel at that level hence they don’t have any other options. They simply look devoid of confidence.

Possibly but then again most of us seemed to think we had a chance of staying up by the time we got to the end of the transfer window last summer. They probably also all backed themselves individually - relegation for the team wouldn’t necessarily mean they’d have to drop back down. Omari being the most obvious example but he’s not the only one thinking on those lines.

I agree with you but that doesn’t mean they see it that way. Footballers have agents and hangers on constantly telling them that they’re amazing and the issue is with the manager, owner, team mates etc. Every one of those players named will believe that they belong in the premier league.
