Players have all the power… until they have none. 10:36 - Aug 13 with 406 views | AVJones | If you are out of contract, and wanted, you have lots of power. Think Axel or Burgess. If you have a long contract, and are worth lots of money, you still have lots of power. Think Omari: his value to ITFC is probably about 15% of what we are worth as a club. That’s a powerful negotiating position. We either need that money, or need his value to continue to stay high. Even if you have a short contract, and are worth very little in transfer fees, it seems you can have power. Think Morsy. The power of being disruptive if not picked, of being seen to be “influential” (e.g. telling other players what a great club we are to join… or not) or just of giving great PR, such as being “rewarded for his loyalty”. No player has loyalty. They want to play for the best club possible, in the best league possible, for the best salary possible. And to win things. They’ll use whatever power they have to make that happen. Until, suddenly, they are no longer wanted and then they have no power at all.

Need to stand firm and stop feeling sorry for the spoilt little ****

I think players get away with it for as long as they’re in demand, but I’m sure such behaviour is remembered when they become a ‘take it or leave it’ kind of target The interesting thing with Omari, if you believe what has been written, is no one is busting a gut to get him - especially considering he was there for the taking when the release clause was live. Just not convinced he’s as wanted at all cost as he thinks, and will therefore leave himself in a pretty horrible position potentially. Playing for a fan base who won’t ever have that same connection with him, and / or playing for the reserves, career could now have a bump in the road etc etc

For what it’s worth, I’m as equally frustrated at Morsy. He signed a lucrative two year deal just a year ago, and then suddenly it wasn’t good enough when we got relegated, and behind the scenes it seems he demanded a new deal or to be let go for nothing. His PR is much better, and of course his sell-on value was minimal, but just because he was offered a fortune elsewhere it seems our fans don’t mind him leaving for nowt and leaving a massive gap in our midfield and in leadership, too.

Club should have stood firm on that one, complete the midfield buys then you can leave. Unless of course they think it is complete, then we are in trouble.
