Encouraging and enjoyable 18:59 - Aug 17 with 316 viewstractorshark

Just got home. Wasn’t the ending we wanted but I thought that was a decent game.
Pretty end to end. Not much in it, draw probably fair but they really couldn’t have complained if we’d won it.
Thought that was Philogene’s best performance and Szmodics and Clarke were both up for it.
I’ve been critical of Clarke but fair play to him, I thought he worked hard, was more physical and a bit more of a threat.
I was in Sunderland on Saturday and they cannot understand why we’re not impressed with him, so the talent is definitely there.
In fact the whole team showed more desire than last week.
Still think the midfield is weak with Taylor but that should be resolved.
Next week will be the true test. We’ve just played two teams who I believe will be in the top six but if we beat Preston and Derby, this month will have a completely different feel to it.

Pretty much agree with that. Still 2 weeks left in the transfer window & we still have work to do so all won't be clear until then, while the new players should gradually bed in. Matusiwa played much better than at Birmingham so hopefully he will come to terms with the pace of English football. Southampton have a good squad & if they don't lose Fernandes etc they should be right up there. I doubt Brum will be serious contenders, but I think they still have belief after barnstorming League 1 last season. That seems part of our problem after so many depressing defeats last season - getting back the winning mentaility.
