1. A hugely important win, both for the team and the fan base - first home win in 2025! 2. Important goals for Philogene and especially Hirst… the latter was still struggling to kick start his season, but was like a different player after his goal - which was actually well taken, as well as being soft from the keeper 3. It was strange how the game panned out as Sheff United had more possession and had long spells coming at us, and they were desperate to score, but a combination of good defending and woeful finishing from the blades meant we kept the clean sheet and then were devastating breaking or when we were attacking 4. Thought Greaves and OShea were getting back to their best, love Greaves breaking forward. But it was a defensive masterclass debut from Furlong. 5. Our central midfielder purred at times, or just did the dirty work well. I love Azor… likeable chap and a more than worthy Morsy replacement 6. McAteer was frustrating those around me, and I’m still to be overly impressed… but he did a couple of things due to his physicality that made me perhaps see the plan 7. Akpom started brightly and was getting joy from balls infield from Furlong… and he looks to have real quality… but needs to gel into the team more 8. Then the embarrassment of riches from the bench - it’s ridiculous, Nunez looks to be the first creative mid we’ve had for a long time, and looked a level above. Clarke was very good when he came on - and McKenna praised his sub display on BBC Suffolk. Szmodics put in a shift and shame he didn’t get the goal he needs. And the Spaniard was very strong. 9. Egeli showed some lovely moments, but is green, I’d like to see some players with their arm around him, especially at the end 10. Overall a huge win, and the blades weren’t as woeful as the headlines, the squad competition now seems to be bringing the best out of players, and I still think we’re weeks away from really clicking - just in time for the derby? Which is going to be raucous this season! A great night, and well done fans. Block A seemed in fine form. [Post edited 12 Sep 23:39]
