Roughly, if your an archaeologist who agrees to work in Isreal then you are agreeing that whatever the true results of your excavation. These results will be used to justify and attempt to legitimise Isreals historical ownership of the area. Everybody in the archaeological world takes any findings coming outta isreal with an enormous pinch of salt. The destruction of Palastines culture and heritage is just another case of them using cultural heritage and archaeology for political gain. Destroy the heritage and culture of your enemies while inventing and exaggerating the importance of your own.. |
I didn't know that. As it is, I enjoy dipping into the archaeological articles in Haaretz newspaper, and I assume (perhaps wrongly) that such a paper (being left wing) wouldn't go down that route. [Post edited 17 Sep 16:01]

Those articles may well be accurate enough, though I personally would still take them with a big pinch of salt. To be honest I'm pretty sceptical of most 'archaeological' stories I read about in mainstream press etc anyway. It's just the Isreali state as taken it even further and sorta made it policy. Roughly archaeology involves the recovery of material culture and dating evidence. These are pretty much non arguable, as in these items were found and these are the dates obtained during the excavation. The issue from there is the interpretation of this evidence. For example if someone is digging a small trench in your garden for water mains and an accompanying archaeologist finds a bit of say Roman pot. Then somebody will write a small, non controversial report suggesting that the ditch was approximately 2000 years old and contained Ronan material. On the other scale of things, if you've just spent a few million pounds and 6 months excavating what you believed to be a " biblical site' and you have little to show fir it beyond a few bits of pottery and the odd date. Then many archaeologists will feel the need to stretch their interpretation in to something way more interesting. They will probably also come under pressure from those funding the excavation and probably also from Universities connected to the excavation to raise the profile of their research. Pushing it even further then possibly even they originally intended. The amount of times I've ready an interesting article and then checked the original excavation report only to find there is in my mind no/very little evidence for what the original impressive headline stated. | | | |

The terrorist genocidal Israeli State. It's official. on 17:36 - Sep 16 by DJR | I've just received the MSF autumn magazine and it has an article with the following heading. "Premature babies fight for life in Gaza As premature born babies fight for their lives, MSF medical teams in Gaza are forced to work without ultrasound machines, incubators and even infant formula" And for those on here who say what about other conflicts, the magazine also has articles on Ukraine, Sudan, Afghanistan and Myanmar?
