Grand national booking tickets advice required 13:28 - Sep 16 with 512 viewsRIPbobby

Has anybody ever travelled up to the grand national at aintree?

I was hoping to travel up on the train on the Friday and stay 2 nights within an hours train journey of the track. Might even fly up if it is cheaper. I think we can get tickets for the west tip enclosure. What advice do you have for the whole trip. Looks a long train journey.

Not sure where you are coming from but it's only just over two hours from Euston to Lime Street.

If you base yourself in the centre, you can reach the racetrack by Merseyrail on the Ormskirk line, stopping at Aintree.

If you have time, it's worth having a look around the centre, especially St George's Hall and the Waterfront, with galleries, museums and the Three Graces.

....usually for the Thursday and Friday.

It's not like Cheltenham where you usually have to stay miles away, I've always stayed in the city centre. I usually stay at the Holiday Inn at Lime St, good location and decent price.

Train out of London at about 9, get there about 12, drop bags off and then a short walk to Liverpool Central to get the train to Aintree.

It's a much better trip than Chelteham.

I prefer the opening day out of the 3, although Friday is always a laugh with all the girls dressing up as if it's summer and usually regretting it after 10 minutes. Saturday is inevitably a bit chaotic.

They usually have decent bands on in the equestrian centre after racing, I've seen The Bootleg Beatles and the Lightning Seeds there over the last few years.

West Tip enclosure is fine, but it's a bit of a way from the action and you'll probably find that you'll give up going back there after a couple of races. If better seats, or terrace, are in your budget then definitely do it.

But overall try and stay in Liverpool if you can.

Thanks good idea there of what to look out for. The Holiday inn is £274 per night for the Friday and Saturday night. Way too much over my budget.

We have a £200 voucher from the jockey club for attendance so just assumed that west tip stand was the most sensible way to spend the voucher.

Like the sound of the music.

You'll have fun, no matter.
